Next up in our Fallout Developers Profile is the might Damien 'Puuk' Foletto, who worked on Van Buren/Fallout 3. Here's a snibblet:
Were there things that you wished you had added to either Fallouts?

Take the interface and its options from Fallout 2 and make it work in Fallout 1. I would have liked the main story timer taken out in Fallout 1 as well. I wanted more time to explore (of course there were plenty of things to do to extend the time, but I just do not like to have a timer on a main story arch. Sub-quest timers are fine.)
Damn straight, why didn't any one fix that Fo1 interface stuff??

Nice interview. Which title are you working on? I have to admit EA seems to be moving in a better direction with the new head/CEO guy they've got, and that LOTR RTS looks pretty good. And Puuk definately looks like a weight lifter. Kind of reminds me of the incredible hulk, actually

EDIT: And Queen is your favourite band - wow, mine too! I love them. Sheer Heart Attack is brilliant. I actually have an email from Brian May where he talks about some stuff I asked him about in a few reasonably lengthy paragraphs - he's a very nice guy. Stone Cold Crazy is a fantastic song on that album, just pure noise.

That's not how I pictured you Puuk. You always seemed kinda perky.

EDIT - Just noticed your sig

Crap, you guys weren't supposed to see that just yet...oh well a couple of days and it's up...

I can just feep the sweat and shacky legs of someone last December...
My greatest accomplishment is raising my daughter, Jillian. Everything else pales in comparison, except my marriage to my wife, Dianne

My wife is also the portuguese equivalent of Dianne, nice taste in names, the little girl is just gorgeous, lucky man :ok:

Good to know we have something in common, Queen's also my favorite band ever, and also Metallica after that :D and I want to see Troika making FO3 too.

I agree, I think I'd prefer Troika over Obsidian. Obsidian have MCA as a proven story writing genius, but I think Troika, given the chance, could do Fallout proud. Plus Obsidian seem a bit more commericalist in the Bioware vein, whereas Troika seem dedicated to hardcore PC RPGs.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! :D

Yeah, it was a very sad day when Freddie died. Queen was a big part of my adolescent years - lots of great memories.

I actually took that picture this morning. I only had 4 hours sleep and was feeling mighty grumpy since I knew I would be working a 12 hour day today. At least EA has a great gym to workout frustrations.

Oh, and the title in question is LotR: Battle for Middle Earth.

You guys should have seen the nekkid pictures he sent me :P

Good profile Puuk, now if we could only get you to use some of those muscles on Hervie.. JUDO-KAH!

I got into Queen after Freddie died, when my parents bought the Night At THe Opera album in tribute to him.... you probably know about it but www.brianmay.com is Brian May's official site and he writes a kind of semi-blog there, updates from him at least once every few days.... very interesting reading his memories and what's happening now.
The LoTR RTS looks very interesting, it's a title I'm looking forward to. Can you persuade EA to do something with the System Shock license?

Believe me, I've said it several times and Puuk also agrees.

If I had that kind of power, do you really think I'd be working on an RTS? lol

Actually, I've been a bad fan. I haven't been following anything Queen for several years. I just listen to my old CD's (well, digitally remastered albums, in other words. I still have my old Queen cassette tapes and even a News of the World 8-track tape)..

Ahhh system shock 2
*memories come flooding back*
what a bloody excellent game! that is the only game that made me almost pee my pants and worked well with a totally dark room and a green lava lamp[for ominous effect!]..i used that rebirth mod and it added even more scare factor! shame the guy making it stopped halfway dunno why :(
i also played it with mp addon with a mate and even though tension was less, the teamwork and fighting over ammo was great fun :) would love to see the same guys, looking glass, do ss3 but didnt they go out of business a while ago?
excuse me, im going to reinstall ss2 now!

Good interview. It was always fun to follow games that Black Isle had in development because of the accessibility of the developers to the fans, even if it was to tell us that our ideas stunk. :D

And in the spirit of Puuk's closing remark, does anyone have some good beer recommendations? McEwans stout is some tasty stuff...

Just saw the E3 2004 trailer of LOTR: BfME. Great work, Puuk, and I mean great! Character movement could be a little smoother, though. But still, Rome: total war can just give up right now! j/k

I'm really looking forward to this game, and it's being made using the Generals engine?! Talk about tweaking! Thanks again for making this game, it looks excellent.
