I think that FO-OL could possibly be a fully 3D (yes first-person, Half-Lifesque) multiplayer evolving universe.

1. Set up a sub-division of Black Isle that would be responsible for maintenance of the online universe.
2. Use a 3D engine i.e. ID software’s latest.
3. Make it cross platform, heh heh; Xbox, PS2, Win, Linux, and Mac
4. Set up a certain number of quests and update them of course. ( I know it sounds like a few online RPGs that are already up but I would rather play in the Fallout universe than in a medieval one, yech!)

I think of it as this Message Board only with quests and if you fuck up hard… MANHUNT!!:)

Nah i would not like it nor would i play it.
FOOL is not to be diskused on this board if u continue with this u will get the moderators on your neck.
Don't try to fight for FOOL or u will probably be banned.
Oki why not to have FOOL.
It would not have any off the dept in the fallout games.
and why should peapole do the qouests that they are given they would probably start to kill peapole everywhere.
or some pepole would train a super carakter and kill all they se of newbies or something like that.
Nah... it would not work and this is just a few of the arguments against FOOL.

Nope. You're just like every other pipe-dream FOOL fan. You want it done but don't have any idea of how it would be done. Do a search on this messageboard for "FOOL" and read the posts that the search replies with. Read them all, and then try to defend your stance on FOOL.

Just a warning, FOOL is considered a banned topic unless/until you've read the arguments made against it in the past. Before you reply accusing us of being nazis, read the old threads dealing with FOOL and most, if not all your questions will be answered.

Here are some quick points:

- FOOL would involve humans, not game-designed NPCs. About 99% of all people who play online "RPGs" are losers and will NOT contribute to the feel of Fallout. Of that 99%, 40% of the online RPG players are losers like Player Killers (PKs) who choose to ruin the game. The rest are either newbies who are trying to scrounge a miserable experience from the game, or players who simply avoid the PKs at all costs. Humans do not role play in RPGs, they play, and when the quests are boring, they KILL.

- FOOL would be Ultima Online with guns, e.g. people would simply run around and kill each other or the NPCs. There would be no prostitutes, no pimps, no druggies, NOTHING that made up the Fallout world in the previous two games. It is that way for all online "RPGs" and is simply how those online RPGs evolve when dealing with humans.

- The game will not be you playing in a Fallout world with everyone else acting like NPCs. No, everyone who joins is going to want to be the Vault Dweller or some other central character. Therefore no story, just killing other Vault Dwellers.

Do not reply to this post reguarding those above points, read the threads the search brought up. If you do argue the above points, it had better be a DAMNED breakthrough. Half-assed "retorts" reguarding FOOL's plausability will result in a BAN. You have been warned.

You think that AC is any better, anyone? EQ or UO? Where is the 'setting' in any of those aside from that one little RP guild off in the corner that is made fun of and picked on? That's right. Macro sellers and shit like that are heavily present in the game.

People really need to start thinking about technical problems before they go blathering on about features and other comparatively worthless shit. I'm not going to repost them, because there's a SHITLOAD, and it's in about thirty different threads. If someone wants to find them, look in a couple of locked messages a bit down the board.

I like both Fallout and AC. Both are great for what they were INTENDED FROM THE BEGINNING.

Fallout: Post-apocalyptic P&P-style RPG with a well-crafted system and setting.
AC: Online game that frequently updates and has varying content.

>1. Set up a sub-division of Black Isle that would be responsible for maintenance of the online universe.

(cip) Origin. Nice way to lose focus of other things, there. What else does Origin do? Nothing much anymore. It's now an online company for EA. Ultima is gone. Worlds of Ultima are gone. Wing Commander is dead or dying. UO had a crippling effect upon the whole production value of Origin.

Sure, let's do that to BIS.

>2. Use a 3D engine i.e. ID software’s latest.

1st instance of programming cluelessness.

>3. Make it cross platform, heh heh; Xbox, PS2, Win, Linux, and Mac

2nd instance of programming cluelessness. No, wait...computer cluelessness. Programming for THAT much entails even more resources than Turbine has involved, or even Verant. It couldn't run ID's latest, and to come up with anything that would run platform-independant it would either need to have very basic server-client interface, or be one BITCH of a user-resource hog as it would require a build of something from the ground up and not involving DirectX or any other base capability.

>4. Set up a certain number of quests and update them of course. ( I know it sounds like a few online RPGs that are already up but I would rather play in the Fallout universe than in a medieval one, yech!)

What Fallout universe? To be honest, UO/EQ/AC really resemble nothing like a medieval universe. The setting of Fallout would be LOST, period. You'd be in some sparsely-dotted landscape with a few scraggly trees, a few rocks. Yeah, in an online game I'd like to run through THAT shit for miles on end. I've run through a while in one of AC's deserts. Boring, bland, and uninspiring. A great way to use server space, and it would not attract the croud that goes 'moo', which is what online games require to keep running.

Oh, and remember that there's going to be very few towns and everything, where a lot of newbies are going to be huddled, etc. That kind of kills the setting too, where there's about 50 mercenaries jammed into the same small area when it's supposed to be 'mankind limping back to health', doesn't it? It'll also be a load of camping spawn-points and all. 'Raiders against the Rangers' has been another thing that's been brought up. "Why don't some play the rangers and the others play the Rangers?" Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. Just like in UO/AC, where trade skills are just for mules, and 99% of the online characters are fighters of some sort, nobody would be really interested in 'going up in organized teams and beating the hell out of each other'. To think otherwise makes me think you've never been in an actual online game guild warefare.

-Fin,
The Roshambo Warrior, hoping that the entire human race gets nuked before it becomes too stupid for itself.

RE: ATTN: Joe's Cafe

Not really.

It's been said repeatedly that if someone is going to try to talk about it, then they had better address the technical aspects of problems that have been very prevalent through the whole FOOL matter. Features are nice, but an impossibility unless the technical aspects are solved. Something has to either be scrapped, but not without losing what makes it Fallout. Sure, I guess a post-apocalyptic MMORPG could be done, but it wouldn't be Fallout.

Joe's post was so ludicrous it makes me think that it was nothing more than total flamebait.

Green Newbies and FOOL

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jan-30-01 AT 01:44PM (GMT)[p]Well, Mister Joe,
With a clue you have no.
I do not like this pitch that you throw.

I do not like FOOL,
I do not like this useless drool.
I do not like your ideas,
you worthless tool.

I do not like tha player gangs,
I do not like "the way Homie bangs"
Or people ruining my questing fun,
with their 1990's yo-boy slang.

I do not like the idea of tanks,
this idea I'm sure last it ranks.
I do not like car-mounted flamers,
or the "newbie ambushes" from cliff banks.

I do not like the server crashes.
or a monthly fee that Interplay cashes.
Nor dying by lag or by
autrhoritarian gamesmaster facists.
(Sorry, that's a stretch!)

I do not like FOOL with a bar,
I do not like FOOL with a car.
I do not like FOOL with punk kids.
I do not like FOOL with PipBoy vids.

I do not like FOOL--not even in jest.
I do not like FOOL--it is not the best.
I do not like FOOL--please give it a rest,
I do not like FOOL--you sniveling pest.

I do not like FOOL because it is beaten to death,
I do not like FOOL because of playability it is bereft.
I do not like FOOL for it's feasibility is sublime.
I do not like FOOL for THE TEN THOUSANDTH TIME!

These FOOL ideas are making me snore,
For all of us you're beginning to bore.
Your ideas won't remove us from our torpor,
because all of your ideas have been thought of before.

So Mister Joe, I leave you this rhyme,
to convince you that you're wasting your time.
I do not like FOOL--it will never be deployed,
Please drop the subject--before Rosh has you destroyed.

(with apologies to Dr. Seuss--primarily for doing such a *bad* parody)
