FO: Strategy

Wild_qwerty

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I've been thinking about this for a while now, but I've recently started converting hte graphics. The graphics are simple enough to convert, though I still need to resize them.
I'm interested to here any suggestions that you may have. Unit types etc... (sorry no plot yet)

Name: Fallout Strategy
Type: Real Time Strategy
Graphics: Sprites converted from FO Tactics
Engine: Stratagus, free RTS engine
Scripting: Lua (I think?)

Even though it looks like War 2, its not. I've been using using the Wargus game (whoch runs in Stratagus) as a base so far.

I suggest shrinking the models.

Yea, they are still the original size at the moment. That and the screen shot is only running in 640x480 resolution.

I've added new cursors in the current version. I've also added the ghoul with the rifle.

engine is here
http://stratagus.sourceforge.net/index.shtml

Seem like units got stats:
(-exp)
arm-armour
dmg-domage
rng-range (weapon range, right?)
sgt-sight
spd-speed

(i will use 1/10 amount scale)

My suggestions

about races:
VC-vault citizens
WM-wasteland mutants

VC unit types:
________________
Water Chip Seeker
arm- 2
dmg- 3
rng- 3
sgt- 10
spd- 8
________________

WM units:

_________________
Holy Glowing One
arm- 5
dmg- 8
rng- 2
sgt- 6
spd- 2

I would like to include Vault Citizens but I have to use FOT graphics because FO2 art only faces 6 directions instead of 8. Their are a few Vault models in tactics but they only have a limited number of animations and they are the wrong colour.

I need a few ideas for what other type of units to use. eg:

Ghoul Worker (Peon/Peasent)
Mutant Brawler (Grunt/Footmen)
Ghoul Patriot with rifle (Trolle Axe Thrower/Archer)

My favourite RTS was Dune2 and Rage of Mages, i dont known Stratagus engine too much, can it be modified to be close these games?

Unit names you can take from Fallout Civilization 3

Yea, Dune 2 was the greatest :) The engine is fairly flexable from what I can see. I did consider a Dune 2 remake, but then again there is one here

http://d2tm.duneii.com/

I've never played rage of mages, so I dont know what it is like

Dune 2 maker seem to be designed for make new scenarios to the same game (but not sure)

Rage of Mages got probably best items system. You can wear leather armour (or chain mail) and on that plate armour. And bracelets are independent from armour. And here is many sort of armour and weapon, different to warriors nad mages.

You dont build any units or buildings, its just RPG adventure
I like it because real time and many items (and great sound)

But its medieval, i wonder how this would look in postnuclear style
Already i found only map editor to this game:

http://www.rageofmages.com/download/

Now I know why I never finished this, I got distracted playing Rage of Mages :)

Anyway, I'm not just grave digging I was planing on resurecting this and making a new FO spin off. The way I see it I could do this in a couple of different ways.

1) FO RTS (Fallout Real Time Strategy)

2) FO Lands. This would be a level based adventure game something like Rage of Mages. Where the player would stroll around doing normal FO stuff (killing etc...)

3) A combination of the two, kind of like Warcraft 3 where there are a combination of both types of level

Anyway I need sugestions for the various unit types to include in the game. And what sort of armies to include.

Check The Fallout Mod forum for HoI2 (my signature).

We have got already some ideas concerning units etc.
Maybe you will even find Hearts of Iron 2 so interesting that you will join us in our efforts.

Check the units and tech threads there if you are looking for inspiration.

Yes, the difference with using the Stragus engine is that it's free. So the gaem can be a complete download.
