Fo1 bug... again...

Drin

First time out of the vault
ok... uh, here I am trying again.

Bug in Fallout 1, no mods.

Specs:

640 MB ram
Radeon 9600pro
Windows XP
1 ghz Athlon

The screen turns black, and I can hear an error message. I try to alt tab the comp, but it doesnt work. When I shut down I can see the error message is titled 'Application Error'

It happens after initiating combat with the thugs in the junktown bar (after killing the mayor)

Happy?

Try running the game in win 95 or win 98 compatibility.
Other than that, try checking the other threds regarding trouble running Fallout on Windows XP, you might find something useful.

win 95 or 98 compatibility? eh? sorry im not the brightest computer junkie, so youll have to elaborate a bit. :)

do you mean run the comp that way or run the game? how do you do that?

To run in compatibility mode :

1. Find Falloutw.exe. It is in your Fallout (typically C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Fallout) directory
2. Right-click it and select properties from the context menu
3. Select the "Compatibility " tab.
4. Check the "Run in compatibiliy mode.." field
5. Select the system from the list below

Try different combinations of settings for the compatibility mode

No, because when you have an application error alert, the keyboard control is pretty much locked into the dialog of the alert. For that, hit space

Thank you. That is why we have the reminder, so you can give enough information so people know where to start in helping you. It's rather hard to give tech support if we don't know what kind of tech you're using. There are often different fixes for different OS', so that is the main thing we require in order to give fixes. No hard feelings, people do get tired of asking the obvious, though.
