[FO1] Can't repair the water pump

I didn't find anything with the search function so I'll just ask here.

I found the parts to repair the pump (Is the description of them "junk" or did I find the wrong item?) and went back to the leader of the underground ghouls who have me 3 books. Now I'm at the Vault with a repair skill of 66% and I just can't repair the pump. If I use the junk on it "it does nothing". When I use my repair skill I simply take the water chip without repairing anything. If I try to repair the pump again I get the message that "I need the chip to repair the pump".

What am I doing wrong?

This pump isn't in the underground - you'll find it on the same level, where the mutants and one ghoul prisoner are. Look for big machinery.
In the Vault, there is only computer with water chip, no pump.

..and you are right, ghouls says about "parts", but it's the "junk" in fact.

Ah, good ol' times - no internet connection, none guides.. Only the game manual, cup of the strong black cofee and the in-game "binocular" action we had. *sighs sadly*

I remember getting stuck on a few adventure games back in the day and having to phone the publisher for hints.
