how come if you destroy the vats then blow up the cathedral you ccan keep on playing the game? But when you do it the other way you cant. Another thing is why were the bombs dropped in the first place?

Actually what Slickaslash is describing sounds like a bug to me. It never happened when I play the game.

The bombs were dropped by China and the U.S. returned the favor. This was because the U.S. possessed the last oil in the world, and the last working oil rig (Enclave rig). I learned all this from the Sierra Army Depot.
