Has anyone beat the game without any weapons?

With the exception of like say brass knuckles.

RE: Has anyone beat the game without any weapons?

Heh. Can't say that I have...although now you've raised the point...it might be worth trying :)

How it'd be possible to beat the 300 hp Master with brass knuckles is rather beyond me (even with Bonus HtH Damage perks and such)

If you ask me though, there is nothing more satisfying than the sound of a Turbo Plasma Rifle melting some hapless (not to mention brainless) Super Mutant

It can be done i suppose. You don't have to fight the master though. At least two ways exist of you not needing to fight him.

i've done it before, i usually always go unarmed, and for fun since the master wasnt really hurting me i took off my power fist and killed him completely unarmed.. no i did not cheat, and or make this up :) im just that damn good

Don't forget "modest" too, zuger :P he he.

And yes, my bad. I completely forgot about the other ways of destroying the master. *smacks his head* bad hair day, that's my excuse :)

RE: Has anyone beat the game without any weapons?

I just replayed Fallout two times this week, the first as a 'normal' evil character, just to get every bad ending speech possible.. and the second time, I wanted to do it using NO combat skills/weapons at all. The first replay took me 3 days i think, and the second replay took me about 6 hours!! Here is a log of my quick no-combat tactics:

1. Started with Gifted/Good-Natured - tagged speech, barter, lockpick(coulda done without this, maybe sneak instead) 9 INT/CHA
5-6 for the rest

2. Go get Ian ASAP at level 1, NPC's will get better as you level with them. Getting level 2 in town with Ian before you even fight anything is a good idea.

3. Go to V15, let Ian kill all the rats. Keep raising barter, speech to 100% or so as soon as you can.. getting gambling to 50%+ is good also.

4. Kill the radscorpions, at level 3 Ian should be able to handle them 2 at a time.. you should have some stimpacks saved up by now from bartering, scavenging. Keep Ian alive, let him do the work.

5. Go to Junktown. You can skip these quest if desired, but they are easily finished with no combat skills. With high speech, convincing the crazed raider is a breeze, getting Sherry to leave the gang is no problem. You should be able to bust Gizmo anf the Skulz, once you add Tycho and Dogmeat to your party, just use stims on your party, and let them do the work.

6. Get to the Hub ASAP with some cash/goods to sell.. Go to the librarian and barter for every book until you can read no more(You can skip Guns&Bullets, but I read them up anyway). If you run out of tradable goods (you shouldnt be using any weapons or armor, well maybe the leather jacket for looks =)and for the raiders with your high CHA[males only]), simply go to the Maltese Falcon, play roulette for about 20 minutes(hold/tape/weight down the keys) betting 50 caps each time. With 50+ gambling you will win alot of money, fast.. having luck around 7-8 is also helpful. you can also take the time to bust Decker, but I'd advise against it at low char. levels. Join the thieves guild while you are here.. this should be easy if you do it right, and if you have to kill the guards, they arent too tough, your NPC's should manage just fine. BTW, if you happen to lose any NPC's around this time, you can do without them. Before you leave town, make sure you get into the Followers store-room and pick up some purple robes. (this is the only "armor" I wore throughout the game)

7. Go to Necropolis, tell the undergrounder that you'll help out, go tell the super mutants you are special or whatever he wants to hear(females get it easy with high speech/cha here) and fix the pump, only things guarding the parts are rats, so its no problem for an NPC or 2, or 3. Go down and get the chip, the only Glowing Ones you may end up fighting are the very first 2, but the go down easy to Ian's 10mm SMG and Tycho's Hunting Rifle.

8. Return the chip, try to help the vault out first. (rebels, thief)

you need to wear the purple robes for the rest of this, and you should have no NPC's with you, except the dog I guess, if you can't stand to let him die

9. Head west to the Base, if you haven't discovered its location yet, then go to the boneyard, go down to the underground vault, use the 'fleshy' computer to get it. You should have managed to dig up a radio by now(Lars will trade you one in Junktown if necessary). Use it to lure the guards away. Tell the dumb mutant you are special and pick the lock. Or steal the 'kode' tape. Make your way down to level 4, if you sneak up to the corner by the Lt. you can overhear a conversation for bonus exp. You can also use the Mr. Handy even if the field isn't up. More bonus Exp. 4,000 total from sneaking to lvl4, 1k each for the previous. Set the silent alarm, 3 minutes. Get out of there.

10. Go to the Boneyard, Don't get help, and if you do end up with the 4 Followers at the Cathdral, you can return to the boneyard to ditch them. At any rate, get to the cathedral alone. If you have raised lockpick to 100% or so by now, simply pick the lock in the back room, go down stairs and wait for Jeremiah to open the secret door. Go on in, make your way down. Noone will attack you with purple robes, high cha, and 120% speech... you can even converse with some of the mutants. Pick up a stealth boy while you are here, if needed. Go down to level 4 and sneak/stealth to the nuke's computer.. you may need to try this a couple of times to get it right. Use science on it (should have 100+ to get it first try), and run like heck. If the mutants sense you as you arm, just stimpak and run to the elevator. The other mutants won't attack you. That's it. You win.
I was like level 6 or something ridiculously low when I finished. My perks were worthless ones, like quick pockets so I could stimpak and run away in one turn. Setting AGI high enough for 9 APs is helpful. You'll need them for running.. alternatly you could use lots of drugs, but be careful early on, becuase with this method you don't find alot. Vance is good guy though, really. No, he is. Honest. I could have finished it in like 30-40 game days, if I had skipped the water chip return, and some of the side quests required several days resting. But I still finished up in like 50 game days.
