[FO1] Military Base

Military Base

In the military base, I have killed all the mutants and the children of the cathedral. Once I get to the Vat control room, I set explosives near the computers. Once they explode it sets off the self destruct for 200+ seconds. Now when I escape the Military base, and go into the exit grid, the screen flashes to an ending where you see your vault getting assaulted and the game then throws me into the main menu. But when I stay in the military base and rest for ten minutes, I get this somewhat satisfactory cut scene with the exploding of the Vats. But then it throws me back into the main menu. I'm confused and don't know what to do, please help.

I guess that after you rest there for 10 minutes, the self-destruction countdown is over,the base is destroyed, you get killed and the game is over.

I dont know why the Vault gets invaded by the mutants when you succeed by running quickly out to the world map. Perhaps you finished the game not quick enough? Perhaps someone other can help you.
By the way, have you installed the fallout 1 patch?
 
I smell another Virus

Sir Medium Sized Jesus Mordino, now with great sense of smell!

This happened to me. I didn't have the patch, and the same ending happened to me. Try killing the Child near the Computer, steal his card, and try to manual set the self-destruct method. This is the only way, man.
