My that's one big hole.

Jus a question to the Glow. I think noone posted this question before.
If the Glow is where all the FEV was researched at, shouldn't you be exposed to it (since the place was nuked to oblivion) for a (little too) long time?
And shouldn't that have any side effects?
Like, you growing beeeg and greeen.
And strong (and stoopid)
You get my idea.
Let's just see this theoretical.
Or do you have to get DUMPED into it in order for it to have any effect?
Opinions pleeze.

RE: My that's one big hole.

The Glow was bombed a long time ago. The FEV should be released but due to atmospheric stuff (wind) it could have blown away and you might only get turned if you are exposed to a large quantity of it. Or maybe it has something to do with the amount of time. Meaning that you only get turned after a certain amount of time has passed.

RE: My that's one big hole.

You had to be placed in those suspension tanks to become mutated - it wouldn't be much good for the military if the FEV virus was airborne and just making mega-soldiers of all and sundry. (Although this does produce a quandry for me as Fallour 2 says the FEV virus is airborne...)
Also JR your first premise is a bit naíve - wind wouldn't blow the virus away like it was a single tumbleweed - it'd spread it.
But at the end of the day resiliant as virii are they wouldn't stand a nuclear blast any better than any other organism at ground zero. Virii don't have an indefinate shelf life either - they can lay dormant a long time but not indefinately. The virus would be prone to the effects of the atmosphere and would be damaged and rendered ineffective by the massive amounts of radiation (which would damage the quad-helix beyond a simple mutation into massive degradation) and other mechanical wearing effect.

Hey that explains a lot. Thanks.
And next time I go to thew glow, I'll be wearing an environment suit from Fallout Tactics...just in case.

Well, I think that's because the Enclave modified the original FEV. The FEV in Fallout 2 kills instead of mutates.

Maybe, the FEV mutated regular animals into the supersized variants. It turns humans into 9 foot tall super muties. Why not a 8 inch rat into a 2 foot rat? But there is the thing about it causing sterility (according to Vree). So I can't explain how the varmints never gets wiped out no matter how many you kill. Also dogs are still the same size. Oh well, that theory is shot full of holes :(

RE: My that's one big hole.

you guys are forgetting though

when you talk to marcus, in FO2 he says that the steritality only last for a couple years, then the juices start flowin again... therefore, the rats could survive? =]
