FO1: Problems with quest scripts

TheCrux

First time out of the vault
Before I get flamed, I did search for quite awhile to try to answer this inquiry.

Anyway, I am running Fallout on Vista, no installation problems.

I am also running the Team X1.2 patch, high res. patch, and the NPC patch.

Game runs fine, amazingly enough, except for NPC behavior.

First problem occurs in the beginning Raider quest. After rescuing Tandi, which works fine. When you go back to wipe the camp out, however, the game will not exit combat even when all the raiders are dead. The two captives run around as though they are afraid of you. If you exit the map and come right back, the captives are gone but I don't think I get the XP for rescuing them.

But that is just the beginning. When I get the junktown, the scripted scene with Killian won't run correctly. The assassin shows up, but doesn't do anything. You can just assault and kill him, whereby the quest proceeds.

But then you run into problems with the gang. The scripted scene in the bar, with the waitress being assaulted doesn't occur. Even if you get the Skulz quest from Lars. So the only way to accomplish this quest is to just kill the gang. You don't get the option to join when you talk to the leader.

With these problems, I don't want to proceed further as who knows what will happen in The Hub.

For further info, the NPC mod appeared to be working fine as I was able to instruct Ian to put on some leather armor. The easy answer, I suppose, is that I needed to have installed the Team X 1.3 unofficial patch, but if I do this, I can't use the engine mod which I like (as I can use the mouse wheel, ect.).

Before I give up on the NPC mod, and/or the engine mod, I would like to know, if possible, if it is the NPC mod, or some problem with running the game on Vista or other issue.

So, does anyone have any idea what is causing the scripted quest problems. The NPC mod? Known bug? Vista? Any help would so be appreciated.

Peace.

May be you own an earlier FO1 release which is incompatible with 1.2 patch. Please, post here release date from readme.txt.

PS Why do you think 1.3 patch is incompatible with engine mods?!? Engine is still the same, so it has to be perfectly compatible.

Readme data says:

FALLOUT: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game
Readme File - 19 November 1997
Version 1.2

It is the GSP version.

For further information, I started a new game with the 1.34 Team X (after installing Team X 1.2 patch) and no NPC mod. Still have the same problem with Killian. Gunman walks in, but just stands there. If you take him out, he has the hunting rifle, but no ammo. Maybe that is the problem? I did install the AP bullet fix mod.

Interestingly enough, the scripted event in the Scum pit, with the Skulz guy messing with the waitress, worked fine. This may be white noise though because I have read this event won't happen if the gang isn't in the bar the first time you talk to Neal (or whatever is the bartender's name).

Or maybe I shouldn't have installed the Team X 1.2 patch because the patch was already present? Thought it odd the vendor would install a semi-unofficial patch. But maybe this is the problem.

Strange that no one else has run into this difficulty. Can't find any information.

At least I know the NPC mod isn't the culpruit.

So, I'm going to start a new game with the NPC mod installed (as it is useful) and take the advice to try the engine mod again (sure missed being able to use the mouse scroll button).

Still, if anyone has some knowledge to impart here, I surely appreciate it. Really want to play this game.

Update: Turns out that sfall, the engine mod, does not like the exe. for the UK version with TeamX patch 1.34. But, the Children's patch changes the exe. back to something sfall recognizes (US version).

Hello.

Your explanation does not provide enough data to reproduce the situation with mods.

First. Tell me exact versions of Sfall, NPC mod, and 'AP ammo fix' which you are using. And I honestly have no idea what 'ammo fix' is meant. Give me a link to download a correct package.

Second. GSP abbrevation says nothing to me. Let's check your disk for compatibilty. Validation tool DL link and instructions could be found in the following topic.

Third. I'd like to have your savegame near the problem occurence.

Fourth. NPC mod is NOT intended to be used without patch 1.3. And patch 1.3 is not intended to be used without patch 1.2 even if your game version already reads as 1.2.
Installation order in your case should look like this:
1. Patch 1.2 (semo-official)
2. Patch 1.3.4 (unofficial)
3. NPC mod 3.4
4. Sfall
