Question from the Hub

I have just started (re)playing FO and I am having a small problem. In The Hub I seem to remember saving a BOS guy the first time I played it, but now that event doesn't seem to happen. What do I need to do in order for this to occur, or is it possible that I just missed it?

The B.O.S guy is in oldtown in the building S.W of the arms dealer.....across the street and down.....careful ....the guys holding him are mean.....after you kill those bums lockpick the back room....talk to him and he'll tell you to go the the B.O.S and tell them he's ok......Power Armor is a great reward

The guy you mean is in old town near the entrance.
Just walk in.

I have walked in at all times of day on a couple of different days. I remember that just walking in gets the event to happen, but are there certain things that have to be done before it will happen, or are there certain things that you can't have done yet in order for it to happen?

Nope, the ornery bastards will take potshots at you regardless of level, equipment, or where you are in terms of completion of the game. (I found this out the hard way the first couple times. Leather Jackets do not stop combat shotgun bursts all too well...) Have a few npc's to back you up.

Unless you'd rather just go back with the plasma rifle and the tesla/combat/brotherhood armor to back you up. That works too.

Well, yeah, but that's if you want to do it later in the game. If you whack those guys as early as possible, it's a good deal of experience for a lower-level character, you get your choice of rewards as soon as you get to the Brotherhood, and the gear you get from those kidnapping bastards can give you a real boost at that point in the game.
