Fo1 resolution patch

First time out of the vault
I can't get this to work for me. I followed the installation instructions and it said the Fallout executable (US 1.1) was patched successfully. Even tried modifying the resolution settings in the .ini file but the game refuses to budge from 640 x 480 x 8bpp. Any suggestions? Running Windows XP SP3.

Not sure what's going on there. Just to rule out one thing though.
Running the "f1_res_patcher.exe" twice will disable the patch. The uninstall message looks rather similar to the install message and I know a couple of people who made that mistake.

Apart from that I'm at a loss at the moment.

Edit:
Make sure you have nothing ticked in the compatibility settings. In particular "Run in 640x480 screen resolution".

I checked the compatibility settings but nothing was checked. I'm also sure that I installed it correctly.

As a test I installed the game on my old Windows 2000 installation & the high-res patch seems to work just fine on that. I don't know... I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with either Windows XP SP3 or the video card drivers. Gonna try switching driver versions next.

I actually just came here to say the same thing.

Already have FO2, official patched and res patched, works fine.

Just got FO1, official patched and res patched, and like he said, it plays, but no resolution change. I tried a few things, it's just playing normal style.

Not a huge deal, but is peeving me out. I do like the wider screen area and the textures look a bit more sharp and all with it! :)

Got it to work!

Alright well it looks like I have an update.

I tried different video driver versions (ATI Radeon X850XT), removing Service Pack 3 and reverting to SP2, and installing the game on another machine (also Windows XP SP3), none of which worked.

I was just about at my wit's end with the whole thing when I tried experimenting with the compatibility settings for the Fallout executable (right click ---> properties, then Compatibility tab) and discovered that when either Windows 98/ME or Windows 95 compatibility mode is enabled the mod now works!! Which of course is the opposite of what was intended.....

If it gets updated I hope this helps you fix the next version. Yay, happy ending 8-)

Nice work, just checked this out myself with Virtual Pc. This may only effect the 1.1 version of fallout though. I tried the TeamX Patch and their 1.2 version of the exe worked fine without any compatibility settings enabled. In any case I'll be looking into it.
