armor questions need some assistance

For the life of me I cant figure out how to equip armor on Ian can anyone help me???????????

Ummmmmm you can't......he just wears his leather jacket armor........that's it......he blows anyway...if you can keep his sorry ass alive until the military base he'll get fried there.....i find the game easier using the the "Hard" setting and not using NPC's for all that long.
