[FO2] "cannot get there" to fix the danged generator

"cannot get there" to fix the danged generator

Okay, so - I'm in New Californian Republic, Jack has just blown himself up, Dorothy wants me to fix the generator and I have 30 seconds, and every time I try to use the repair skill I get "cannot get there". Every time. I've tried coming at it from several angles - I can be standing right next to it and it still says I can't get to it. There is noone else there, nothing obviously blocking the way...

has anyone else had this problem/found a solution/willing to hypothesize a fix?

You may have the wrong generator. Th eone you want is the multi monitor thingy on the wall on the right. Try that, I managed it without even useing Vic.

Aha! I knew it had to be something devilishly clever and deeply non-lateral, like fixing the *other* generator.

Otherwise I would have thought of it myself.
