[FO2] Can't save during the combat

ZuTheSkunk

First time out of the vault
Okay, I don't know if this is a n00b question or not, but I couldn't find anything in Google nor here, so I'll ask:

I have a Polish version of Fallout 2 with newest (2.1.2b) Restoration Project installed (with proper Polish translation). And after starting a new game, I immediately noticed a VERY important problem: I can't save during the combat.

And it's VERY important because being unable to save during the combat completely nukes my traditional tactic of playing a character with 1 Luck and Jinxed trait, which involves saving many times during the combat to avoid critical failures for myself and hoping that the enemies will make some failures themselves.

How can I bring back the ability to save during the combat? Without removing the RP that is.

I think SFall (which comes with RP) removes saving on combat, you can only save when you don't spend any action points. This was implemented to force players to use a more tactical approach instead of just loading and saving. So the only option you've got is save before combat or save when you have all the action points to spend.

Also there is an issue with some game saves corrupting when people save during combat.

Heck no. :shock:

As pixote said, it was added because saving mid combat causes all sorts of save game corruption. I'm not one to force people to game a certain way... There's an option in ddraw.ini to turn it off, but if you do, don't complain about any save related bugs.

My bad Timeslip :oops:, since I didn't had any issue with saving on combat I thought it was to make the game more tactical (well it's a side effect isn't it :P). And I know you don't force people to game certain way because Sfall is very customizable which people can choose what they want or don't.

Okay, I checked that out and it seems that I can indeed save only when I did not used any of my Action Points yet. Well, that's more or less fine to me, still way better than being unable to save during the combat at all. :) Thanks for info.

I tried to find this option in this file, but could not find any. Do you know how this option is called?

Look for this:
Code:
SaveInCombatFix=1

and set it to...

SaveInCombatFix=0
I'm not sure but I think that line is not included in the sfall version that came with the RP. If it isn't just copy that last line and put it at the bottom of ddraw.ini.
