Character level limit?

I've been playing for a while and have a level 20 character, but I can still get killed by the enclave patrols, even when there are only 3 of them and 2 of them have pulse pistols while one has a plasma pistol. And even when I use the quick save, targeted shot with 120 points of skill in energy weapons with a plasma rifle. If the level limit is still 21 then how did you guys beat the enclave patrols?

Where did you get the idea there's a level cap in Fallout 2? Your character can reach level 99 if he wants to.

Nah. Once your character is that godlike it really doesn't matter.

Some of the perks arent usefull. Like some of them increase your skill points. But at level 99 you'd surely have 300% on everything, or at least the important things.

Level 99 is the cap btw.

My friend has got to level 71 before. He just kept going back and forth between the area around san francisco the old military base and new reno. LOTS of aliens and thing there. Also be sure to clear every cave out (well apart from those ones with ez oponents, i found those to be a waste of ammo and time if anything. Like the little radscoripions, the whole cave only gives about 1500exp. anyway), the caves are great, the best ones at the start i find are the immature deathclaw ones (Thats their name, right?), I could take them on pretty easily and gain about 3000 - 5000 exp. for each cave. Which isnt bad, considering on my way to vault city (I think it was there) I encountered 3 of them. And gained a few levels.

Your level 20, so you should be able to take on some tougher enemies. If you cant pass the enclave patrols on your own. Dont go that way. Try taking on some aliens. Also get good combat perks (you'll be getting one at level 21). Umm... get a good group together (of NPC's). I wouldnt recomment taking on the enclave on your own, unless you really feel up to it. At this moments they are pretty similar to you. Same weopons, same armor. But your more skilled
