..or is it just an easter egg and nothing more?

I don't think it does anything. I tried offering the lady in Modoc (Rose?) the egg for accidentally killing her "chicken," but she didn't even notice.

i've been trying to find that son of chick forever!!
i found stuff like batteries and pipe rifle and eletronic lockpick and u know stuff
but never the egg even though i look everywhere.

so............um help?
