FO2: Geck Checkpoints + Investigating NCR

First time out of the vault
I recall getting a mission from the Vault City Captain of the Guard to go scout out NCR and Gecko. The problem is that I'm not really sure what to do (I got the missions an eternity ago, and can't precisely recall the wording of the text either).

I know I'm supposed to seek out and assess 8 checkpoints in Gecko, but I have no idea as to where they are. I've ran a few laps around Gecko, entered just about every building in both the Junkyard and the general town along with the reactor, but the quest doesn't resolve and I receive no new conversation options from the quest-giver.

Same thing with the NCR quest. I've entered and thoroughly explored NCR, but haven't received any new dialogue options or a reward for it from the Captain of the Guard of Vault City.

Precisely what is it that I have to do? [/i]
 
That's weird. The 'checkpoints' you have to visit outside of Gecko is just the eight squares around it - you don't have to actually enter them, just travel through them on the world map so they get 'lit up' like all the other squares you've visited. If you've done that and it still doesn't work, something's wrong.

With the NCR quest, all you should have to do is go there, enter the city, and go back. If he won't credit you for having been to NCR even though you have, he's a shithead (ie, there's some form of glitch).

Dunno what the glitch could be though. What version are you on? I've played both European and American - patched and unpatched - but never had that problem.

(The true Fallout gurus around here will probably be able to help you better - I just felt like getting involved a bit in the game discussion since I recently replayed it and consider myself at least somewhat knowledgable.)

For Gecko: I though it involved actually entering the town. Thanks!

For NCR: It's probably a glitch then. I've completed the Raiders quest and informed him about it (and talked to Lynette plus done her work), and I am running on the 1.02 Patch of the U.S. Version.

I managed to successfully complete th Gecko Recon, at which point he again mentioned the NCR recon, which I then resolved just about instantly Thanks for the help!
