having big fat game-stopping error messages in San Fran

I've patched the game, done navarro, done the BOS stuff, done some shi stuff and went to talk to the oil tanker ppl and get their quests, but when I try to return from the docks to downtown SF the game slows down, never loads the next screen, and (if I wait long enough) after like 10 minutes gives me an error with kernel32 - yeah the windoze sys file. any ideas (other than redo the last 4 levels of my character since I was too dumb to save in more than 1 slut)?

I believe it has something to do with saving after killing the big bad boss. It has been reported that if you save in that particular time frame, the game will crash.

This is the too many items bug, I bet. There are several threads about it and how to "fix" it that are not too old. Basically you need a) replace the sfchina.sav file with an older, unbugged one and b) get rid of junk that you're probably lugging around in your trunk (or else you sold too many different items to the shopkeepers). In the stupid game I'm playing now I'm paying attention to the item count for the first time, and for the first time I have had no disappearing Skilldex button bugs or frozen loading screen bugs. Yay.

thanks a lot PER- your advice worked.
it messed up the state of 1 thing - the hubologist forcefields are all on now for some reason - but otherwise everything is fine, and I have a high enough repair skill that the forcefields don't really matter.

RE: having big fat game-stopping error messages in San Fran

Hey, Per, wasn't that my idea? :D How about some credits here? :D

Sorry, Vesuvius, I was too sleepy to pay attention to details. For some reason, I mistaken your question with Enclave.

RE: having big fat game-stopping error messages in San Fran

well thank you too starseeker.

can anyone recommend a good catalogue/walkthrough of the special things available after winning?
-hintbook in NR
-miss kitty in NR (sexpert perk)
-enclave porno in NR
-supposed auto upgrade, but right now I can't get it, in NR
-infinite exp./levels in VC
-pipboy note from designers in VC
? any others ?

RE: having big fat game-stopping error messages in San Fran

That solution's actually been around a long time.

There is an Ending walkthrough swimming around here somewhere, try the main site. Per is writing a "PERFECT" walkthrough that suppose to includ "everything", so you may want to check with him to get a beta copy. I guess that's the reason he's so quick with the answers, bec. he has them written down, unlike us poor suckers who has to conjure up these things from memories. Isn't that right, Per? :D:D:D

I get it from memory too as I'm posting, but of course having written everything down recently facilitates this. And sometimes I find that having to formulate an answer to a specific question helps me go back to the walkthrough and phrase it in a better or more correct manner. The beta should be done Any Day Now and I apologize for saying this so often. :) (I decided to play my stupid game to the finish once I noticed it would go rather quickly - you only get to do like one out of 5-6 quests.)
