Here Kitty Kitty, I have a nice Grenade here for you..

Is throwing really that bad of a skill to get good at? Pretty much everywhere you read it says to totally ignore it because It's useless. To me it seems it would make a pretty cool/decent second combat skill to have, Carry a few Grenades/Plasma Grenades and a gun..... Meet a group that's all together, Throw one at 'em.. Pick off the rest with your normal weapon.
If for anything it'd be cool in the RP aspect. Having a Amry-ish kinda char, or something.
Anyone ever use it? I never have..

I only use plasma grenades for small groups of tough armoured foes.

It's because nearly all the grenades are really rare until you fight the hubologists near the end. Then you have the bozar and gauss weapons anyway so you don't need the plasma grenades. The EMP grenades are good though.

I've played a character with Throwing as a primary weapon
skill. On the whole it worked well enough. In the
beginning you have spears, and there's usually lots of rocks
to pick up and throw. Targeted shots to the eyes do nice
damage. And in the later part of the game being able to
toss grenades exactly where you want them can create major
mayhem to your enemies. And the pulse grenade is most
efficient at taking out robots at one go.

There are two big disadvantages, however. Weapon recovery
is tedious and infuriating. Thrown weapons don't show up in
your victim's inventory, but instead you got to
painstakingly click on the body to find them, and often you
just can't find them. And missles that miss can go through
walls, behind furniture, etc., and you'll end up losing them
as well. For example, in the Temple trial I lost both
spears (the one you start with and the one you find on the
skeleton) in walls, and ended up having to deliberately set
off the traps in order to get a supply of pointed sticks to
throw.

Second, your weapon supply takes up a large part of your
inventory. Rocks, throwing knives, grenades, etc., each
weigh at least one pound, so you end up hauling around much
more weight for combat purposes than with a firearm or two
and some ammo.

Still, overall it was fun, especially from a roleplaying
point of view. Everyone should consider trying it at least
once.
