How to use a holodisc

I made a search on this forum on that topic but couldn't find anything. Also, I'm really sorry if my question appears to be stupid, but: how the hell are you supposed to use (read) a holodisc? I guess I must have tried everything but the right thing!

Go into your inventory and put the mouse cursor over it. If you don't get the look cursor, change it to that. Click on it and hold the mouse button down. A menu should appear with a hand. Scroll down to the hand and release. Go out of the inventory and access the pip boy. Choose status and you should now find the info that was on the holodisc on the right side of your screen.

Thanx dude! It was kinda frustrating not to be able to make any use of this data. Well, I lost some of it though, like the Bishop holodisc, and the one you have to deliver to Westin. Anything important there?
And are there supposed to be some images on holodiscs sometimes?
Oh, and one last thing. I just finished the game. Any suggestion about what's worth doing on the map now?

After finishing go to New Reno (commercial area) and see Father Tully who will give you the Fallout Hint Book, this gives you 10 000 xp per read, and your skill stats go straight to 300%. That way you can get all the perks and just go through the desert opening big ol cans of whupass on everyone who ever dissed you. Sadly, after a while being cool gets old, thats when i normally start over with a new bizarre character who has 10 luck and 0 everything else, or something equally tragic. Then i bug Jr Jansen for help....
