HtH/Melee Charcter

Any tips? Ive made a chracter mainly focused on Melee and Unarmed. Do the bonus h2h (less arrack for h2h, if not then what perks do?) attacks include unarmed weopons (power fist) and where can I find some good melee weopons?

Also what perks skills are good? MY unarmed is at 110%, my melee is at 150%... Im a newbie to h2h, so plz help!

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

Here are some good perks for a Hth/Melee char:
2 ranks of Bonus Move: you'll need to get in the guy's face.
2 ranks of Life Giver: you'll need all the HP you can get.
Bonus HtH Attack: more attacks per turn.
Slayer: hands down, the BEST perk for a HtH char :)

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

OK, thanks for those. But Id rather get 2 ranks of action boy instead of bonus move. Sure it does give you 2 movement points... but once your their its useless, isnt it? Where as with action boy you can then use those 2 points on other things. :)

Oh and could you tell me what stats and what level I can get those perks at? Im at level 12 and only seens bonus move and lifegiver. Also does Bonus HtH attacks ONLY effect your punch's/kicks or does it also effect melee/unarmed weopons (super sledge or mega power fist)?
And same with Slayer, does that effect them?

also, any idea where i can get a super sledge/power fist cause Im not going PURELY HtH.

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

Unfortunately, the HtH bonuses only affect HtH combat (Mega Power Fist, included), not Melee. You get Slayer at level 24. Once you get Slayer, there's little point using a melee weapon. :)

The SuperSledge can be brought from San Fran or taken from Navarro. The "Big Frigger" Mega Power Fist can be brought in San Fran or just have Algernon upgrade a regular Power Fist.

Well by the time I get to San Francisco (Im actually following the game it was 'meant' to be played, and no going to san fran 1st) the super sledge will be useless... too bad theres no real melee focused perks. Ah well, Ive gotten to NCR with only my sharpened spear and fists, but now that I got there, Its mega power fist time! :) Thanks for the tips btw. Oh and, just how tough is the Oil Rig with HtH? Or enclave for that matter

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

(Note: When we're talking about places you can actually go, "The Enclave" equals "the Oil Rig". Actually the enclave is the community of the last "pure" americans... Well, that's a load of bull IMHO but the point is you can't actually "go to the enclave", it's just a phrase. Feel free to correct me with any details, it's been a while... :-))

Other than the bit of wisdom above, I have no idea. Just a speculation: With a well built HtH character I wouldn't expect it to be any more difficult than with a ranged combatter, especially since Adv. Power armor mk.II takes the punch out of miniguns. (Then again, I haven't actually ran up to a dual minigun turret and tried, I guess you could get 1-hit-killed every now and then) Also, fighting the death brigade of the gauss rifle-wielding power armored troopers on the first floor might prove more or less tricky. Incapacitate them... and do it fast :-)

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

Oh, and here's a good reason to get at least 1 level or Bonus move at some point: It's true that get free AP with action boy, but if you take just 1 level of bonus move, you can spend 2 less AP for running up to knocked down opponents and maybe reloading that mega power fist of yours. :-) It's easily worth running around the wastes for 3 more levels. :-)

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

The two main weapons I used were Power Fist and Mega Power Fist. These are the perks I used and the worked very well for me.

Bonus HtH Attacks

Bonus HtH Damage - Get all three lvls

Bonus Move - Get at least one lvl of this if not both

Gain Strength - Every little bit helps

Quick Recovery - I got knocked down a lot by deathclaws & Floaters.

Slayer - Obvious reasons

Stonewall - For the same reasons as Quick Recovery

Better Criticals - I got this after Slayer, once again every little bit helps.

I disagree with this. At the start I took 7 strength which is already a lot, but then again with a HtH character I never needed perception so I could afford putting that to 3. That still leaves another 37 points (I chose gifted :)). Anyway with Strength at 7 the power armor makes it goto 10 (max) anyway. Also the chip in vault city makes it go up 1 level (good for times when you dont have armor on - e.g. san francisco). So why waste a perk on something that your gonna have a max on anyway. You could even try strength as low as 6, but this would disadvantage you a lot at the start.

In place of gain strength id pick action boy or lifegiver. With Bonus hth damage, once you get slayer, which is critical hits, 6 more points of damage arent going to do a huge difference. Id say take Bonus Hth Damage once, early.

Slayer is a MUST, also is silent death (that one that were you sneak and kill someone from behind you do 2x damage) worth it?
Im not playing a COMPLETLY combat oriented character, so all those combat perks arent needed that much. e.g Stonewall AND Quick recovery? Id rather just take 1.

Also, about HtH being weak. Ive found it to be VERY easy at the start. Simply because your unarmed skill is huge (Compared to others) to start with. And you can make it go up a lot of times. So while some are doing 8 damage each turn with their 10mm pistol. I was getting in 3 punch's each doing about 10 damage :)

I find it a bit harder mid-game. As good unarmed/melee weopons are rare. The sharpened spear that you have from Arroyo is your best melee weopon (Not only does it have a nice damage, but its has 2 range. More then most other melee weopons). You can get that blade from around New Reno. But then as soon as you get to NCR and get the mega power fist, your set.

I was actually taking on the aliens in Redding with my sharpened spear :) Wasnt doing too bad. But I wouldnt recommend it. It takes A LOT of stimpacks.

Anyway HtH characters are very fun to play. I havnt got to the oil rig YET. But a HtH character, with the right perks and a mega power fist can kill a tough death claw in 1 turn. Thats over 300 damage. And you say they cant mess with the enclave! Slayer is the best perk, and anyway how many times do you really need to fight the enclave?

As for the turrets, I hate the sierra army depot :-P I cant take on the turrets, because as soon as Im in range the damn turret hits me for 100 + damage or something and Im either dead, or almost dead. So now I just took out a sniper rifle, and shot at it from a fair distance, then cassidy followed my example. Too bad sulik didnt understand. He had the .233 pistol and well, lets just say the turret had more range. So I might come back there once Ive got a better armor (only got the bridgekeepers robes now!)

You can go through the game without fighting at all until the end boss. I played a Charisma Boy with a pathetic 2 str (the Jinxed trait is suprisingly good for a non-combatant type :D) and finished the game. I racked up a whopping 5 kills total and 4 of those kills belonged to Sulik (I OD the President on Super stimps. LOL.)

The game is not much fun as a pacifist though; you would miss out on a lot of the quests. I usually play a balance Charisma Boy/Combat Boy.

RE: HtH/Melee Charcter

Gain strength is good for Boxing in New Reno and fighting Lo Pan or the Dragon in San Fran. Action Boy I mistakenly left out. Those were some of the perks I used. I also got Living Anatomy among others. Also I took Stonewall and Quick recovery both because 1. I did not want to get knocked down 2. If I did it probably means I took a lot of damage (eg Deathclaws) and would like to be able to access my inventory and still be able to hit them in same turn despite the fact I got knocked down. Like I said in previous post they worked very well for me.

I suppose your right. I'd take all the other perks before quick recovery and stone wall though. And gain stregth... well how much strength did your guy/girl start with? Mine was 7, then 8 after the module thing in Vault City. 8 strength got me through the boxing in New Reno. Dunno bout the Dragon/Lo pan (if you read my other post, my game crashed here :()
