Instant melee kills?

I've read on some posts on this forum and on websites that you can get instant kills in melee combat. How do you do this?

RE: Instant melee kills?

High STR, high melee skills, and the perk Slayer. Increase your critical to hit counter and damage counter helps, too.

Simple. Get a super sledge and find a giant ant :)

Instant kill is the best result you can get on the critical hit table. See the manual for more information. They're the ones that say "his spine is now clearly visible from the front" and such; the message depends on which kind of critter you're attacking, and it may not be possible to get this type of critical against all of them. I've never seen an instant kill on Horrigan, for instance, although I've seen hits that paralyzed him for several rounds (you see him go down on his knee).

Yup...I'd agree with everyone above...

Instant kills in the game are the best results of a critical hit...I believe that the roll you must get on the critical dice is over 100...So, you'd need the "Better Criticals" Perk. The Instant Kills do massive damage, much more than the critter's normal hp...and there's some amusing flavor text...but that's about it...

I suppose that there's one other type of technically "Instant Kills". When you do more damage in one hit than a critter has HP...without a critical hit. This is achieved by a powerful weapon, the Bonus Damage perks and possibly good ammo.

Nitpicking time. :) The ones that do massive damage are usually the ones where you get a damage multiplier, or when you get a burst weapon hit without armour. The special thing about instant kills is that they kill critters while inflicting far *less* damage than they have HP.

RE: Instant melee kills?

I get instant kills constantly, it's really simple. They don't even do that much damage. I've killed wanamingos several times, sometimes doing as little damage as 6, in one hit. I just target their eyes and punch. Granted, I have 10 luck, 30% critical chance and better criticals. But thats how it goes. Punch em in the eyes, break their brain, down they go.

RE: Instant melee kills?

ya.. with 6 luck, more criticals, better criticals, and sniper, i do them all the time actually.. today i killed a centaur for 31 points.. dont remember the text it was something like "Mean Centaur was hit in the eyes for 31 points. The death is instant." it really makes it pretty obvious for you :P

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then they'll be a mile away--and barefoot.

RE: Instant melee kills?

I am a weapons person myself, but every once in a while I need to box. I have the slayer perk and must say in my situation the instant kills suck. Just about the only time I go unarmed is when I box in New Reno. Just about everytime I get an instant kill on the other boxer my Fallout just hangs in combat. I can end combat but the announcer does not come out and declare my win. I spent two hours one day just to beat three boxers without instant killing them. It is cool with random encounters, but sucks butt in New Reno.

RE: Instant melee kills?

to score the instant death criticals you need to hit the critter in a specific spot for each different type of enemy. such as the eyes for rats "sending them to the great ratcatcher", the arms for supermutants works good "arm gushes blood or something" i dont think i've ever got a deathclaw with one of those before, its just best to hit deathclaws in the heads so they dont run away when you blind em. same with geckos, its best to just knock em unconcious. i love getting slayer and grabbing a switchblade and carving up enclave soldiers and cripplying all of there limbs then watchin them squirm.
