Military Base, levels 3 & 4

I did a search on the forum and never found this question asked or answered, so I'll throw it out there for all the experts:

On levels 3 and 4 of the military base, there are areas off to the east that you can see on the screen (by scrolling right), but that seem to be blocked off by cave-ins or other rubble.

Question: is there any way to get over to that other section (there is an elevator on both levels) or is it just there to evoke feelings of nostalgia from FO1 players?

RE: Military Base, levels 3 & 4

ive never heard of any secret parts of the mb so i would assume there is none.. but i could be wrong. try walking along the wall and stuff.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then they'll be a mile away--and barefoot.

RE: Military Base, levels 3 & 4

Well, the long version is that they used the same engine and maps for a lot of the places in FO2 from FO1, so the MB is supposed to look like the FEV base. If you read the Enclave holodisks carefully, you'll discover that the base survivied all the explosion from you in FO1, so that is why they had to dig the whole thing out using local miners. All they worried about is to dig out one pure sample of FEV virus, so they basically ignored all the places that aren't relevent.

So then nobody ever found a way to get over into that other section?

I don't mean to be rude, but, did you read through what I wrote?

Meaning: Those areas didn't get dig out.

No, I understood that they weren't fully excavated according to the storyline. I just wondered if maybe there was a way to "do it yourself" -- drop explosives near a particular wall, or use a shovel somewhere, or something along those lines; or maybe Melchior had a secret way to get in there or something. Oh well.

It seems rather uncharacteristic of the Fallout games to show you an area on a map that you can't actually get to (though I guess that room in the Enclave oil rig qualifies, too).

Thanks for the reply.

That room would probably have been used for omitted stuff involving the Yellow and Red Reactor Keycards, though.

Starseeker does answer questions a bit oddly, don't you think? ;)

RE: Well, now.....

Hey, hey, hey!:D

Anyways, like I always said, my brain works in ways I do not understand. While I am quite logical at times(most often working), my mind tends to wander from here to there due to lack of mental focus on situation at hand. I have found out that sometimes when I write, I am able to jump ahead entire paragraphs as though I had wrote them even if it was just floating in my head. Sorry to put you through any unnecessary hoops to jump through. Even some of my close friends said that it takes some catching up to do to understand what I am talking about.
