FO2 Problem with XP

Jon Bob

First time out of the vault
Let me start by saying sorry to add another post about an XP problem in running FO2.

I've seen a few posts about it but none of the solutions seem to work for me.

Baiscally whenever I go to play FO2 it loads and then the "Please Wait" screen appears, then it goes black and returns to my desktop.
I've tried installing it in Small, Medium, Large and Huge with the same problem. I've downloaded the latest patch. I've tried to change th compatability but when I do that it says the CD isn't in the drive. I have also tried to disable all start up programs and still got the same problem (couldn't find any program such as "CCTHELPER" which Ive hearded you disable and it works). I've heard you can disable your graphics card or something but Im not too sure how to do that, I ain't too great with stuff like that and don't even know if I have a graphic card as such. (Although I have ran dxdiag then clicked display and disabled what I had on in there and still got the same problem)

My computer is a Dell DIM2400 and I know I have 512mb RAM, 40GB hard drive, and apparantly CPU 2.60 ghz.

Any ideas? It used to work on my old computer and I miss it!

PS. Ive also tried to install in mannually but the CRITTER.DAT file wond copy onto my computer, it comes up with an error that says something like "Invaild MSDOS function".

Also I have just tried to re-install it by changing the compatability of the SETUP.exe file to windows 95, it installed perfectly but then once I tried to play it a message said needed to put the disc in the drive (the same problem as when I change the compatability normally). I even opened the auto run off the CD and still go the same message when I clicked "PLAY".

Any help?!!!

PLEASE?!?!?!

Nobody???

It's had 28 views and not one person can help me out?

Come on guys, sorry I'm forcing you to repeat anything you've wrote before, but from what Ive read it hasn't worked on my computer.

PLEASE HELP,

JON

1. You are a triple poster.

2. You are impatient. People help you at their leisure, not at your bidding.

3. Try checking in the config file so that the drive letter for the CD lock and so on match your system.

Sounds like you've got a damaged disk to me. Check for scratches.

Along with some problems with your O.S.

My problem is worse.
When i run the setup to begin the installation, the screen turns blue and stucks :(

I can't even choose a instalation...any suggestion?

WinXp Sp2
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Geforce 6600GT
1024 Ram
320GB HD

What you want to know exactly?
I'm trying manual instalation but still i'm all confused

I'd also like you to read all of the stickies first. Then tell us what you have and have not tried. And then we might be able to help you.

I've tryied the compatibility stuff and did the same thing. I've tryied to install it manual, but it gives a "ciclic redundance" error :(

Isn't there a XP SP2 install for this problem? DAMN MICROSOFT!

I am having same XP problem

Hello,

I am having the same XP problem. I have tried so many things and nothing works. It loads up, gives a please wait screen, then boots me back to the desktop.

I have a

P4 2.4
1gig ram
ATI Radeon 9700 (and YES my drivers are current)
Win XP (and yes it's completely updated)

I'm sure there are others out there with this problem.

You could've searched the forum, and you would've immediately found that 'cyclic redundancy' means that your CD is damaged. Tough luck, nothing we can do.

Peterson: gee, you're having the same problem, but you apparently didn't read the suggestions that others made, like reading the stickies, and telling us what you have done to try to fix it.

I image the cd and could install the Humongous installation, but when i try to run the game...the game wont run :x
I've tryied the compatibility stuff, doesn't work too...what's wrong?

Won't run as in "Will run, but the screen turns black", "Will run, but exits with an error message" or "Will not run at all" ?

And read the stickies and do what they tell you to do. Because you still haven't.

You can take the damaged cd to local library. They usually have a scratch polishing device, at least here in Finland.
