fo2 problems are making me sad...

First time out of the vault
Right now, I'm in Broken Hills, but the problem is not exclusive to this area. Basically, I talk to someone and when the conversation is over, the talk screen stays up, but without any talk options or anything and I can't get out of it without force quitting the game. I tried going to the barter screen, which worked, except the same thing happened. Once I got to the barter screen, all the inventories were blank and this time, I couldn't go anywhere at all. This is getting extremely frustrating because I can't further my game at all :( anyone have any advice? I use windows XP (I was unable to install it on a computer with Windows 2k) and I've installed the patch...

but have you tried hitting "0" ?

it's the "leave conversation" shortcut (which can be abused if you piss someone off)
 
Okay, I tried the 0 trick and it didn't work... the problem is with Eric, the sweaty mutant in Broken Hills... this makes me sad. :cry:
 
Oh weird.... I pushed the escape button while the talk screen was stuck, and the menu popped up. So I saved in a new slot to see if the error would still be there if I loaded the game, and it was. But weirdly enough, the loaded game had the console at the bottom, and it worked just fine. But the actual game screen didn't move and the talk screen was still stuck. So... I went back to my earlier save and loaded it. Lo and behold, somehow the messed up game file corrupted the other, and they're both stuck in the same place.... I wonder if it has something to do with patches that I'v DLed... ugh... I think I might have to uninstall everything and start all over again...
 
Corrupt Files? But then, you'd be probably getting *ERROR* messagess in place of dialogue lines instead of blanks. Has this ever happened to you? Make sure you have a humongous (max)_ installation and that all the files are copied to the hard drive without problems.

Or memory allocation problems maybe? Try shutting all unneccessary applications prior to running Fallout? Really, I'm at a loss here, I've never heard of such a problem :(
 
It might have something to do with editors and stuff that I've DLed for the game... I'm at a loss here. I did get the humongous installation, however. And this only started happening yesterday, when I figured I needed to give the computer a break. But I started up cold this morning and the same thing happened... well, I'm uninstalling again. I don't know what I'd do if the same thing happened...
 
argh!!!! I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it, got the patch and all, and now when I try to play, it screws up! I'm now trying to do the temple of trials over again, but I can't even walk in before the screen goes black and and error message pops up, complete with the "something's wrong" alert noise. This is really frustrating... :cry:
