Question about Sniper perk....

What does it mean when it says a "Luck Roll" ????? i'll admit i have no friggin clue.....i've never gotten this perk before......i usually finish the game somewhere around level 21 or so.....i just find it hard to wander around for ages to get enough points for the cool lvl. 24 perks....oh and also what is the charisma formula for how many NPCs you can have???? i know the great JR will know this one......thanx

RE: Question about Sniper perk....

Aah. Once again, a Luck roll means a lucky roll(with a dice).

"A note about dice rolls.
Dice? In a computer role-playing game? Well,
Fallout 2 is a true, back to basics role-playing
game. These games were originally played, and
still are, at a table with paper, pencil, and dice.
Fallout 2 stays true to those origins. Some
parts of the manual will refer to rolls. In this
case, Fallout 2 is rolling against one of your
characteristics with "virtual" dice."

RE: Question about Sniper perk....

and its your charisma / 2 for how many NPC's you can have. Magnetic Personality allows one extra.

RE: Question about Sniper perk....

Umm...no offence, but the explanation didn't seem all that clear to me.

The "Sniper" Perk will change a normal hit with a gun into a critical hit, if a Luck roll is made. What this means, is that every time you shoot some poor sod with a gun, the game simulates a d10 roll (ie. it generates a number between 1 and 10). If this number is equal to or less than your luck score, then the normal his is converted into a critical hit. If the roll is above your luck score, then there is no effect. In short, the higher the luck you have, the greater chance you have of a critical ( a MUCH greater chance than without the perk - Critical Chance without Sniper Perk is LK%...WITH the Sniper perk, Critical Chance is effectively (LKx10)% )

And just a little techincality, yes the NPC formula is CH/2 (rounded down) and yes, Magnetic Personality adds 1 to this...to a maximum of 5.

I swear I'm not nitpicking :P

RE: Question about Sniper perk....

I've been away for a few days so i ddin't have time to answer this but the above people are right. Thanks for calling me the great JR, allthough i don't deserve it. A lot of other people are as great in their knowledge of the game as i am but it gave me a good feeling.
