Something very interesting happened when I got the car. I had heard that you needed a fuel something from skeeter to make smitty fix the car. But when I asked him for it for $2000, he just gave it to me and it works fine!
Must be a bug- anyone else had this happen to them?

That has happend to me when I have played it unpatched.

Yup, quite known bug when playing without the patch. In fact some people never play the game with the patch to get the car sooner in the game.
