Short question

Hi all.

Nice to see that there still is a Fallout community, played both games when they first came out and I'm playing through #2 again.

One question tho, 2nd time through now...

Is First Aid totally and utter useless?

Seems it never heals more than 5-6 points even at around 90% skill with or without healing kits.

Since I had serious problems getting ahold of a copy I first played the streamed version from streamtheory.com (worked surprisingly well) and then I got the jewel from cdinteract.com and hence, no manual. So I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong :).

I think so. I don't know if First Aid ever had anything on Doctor other than a slightly higher starting level, but given that this difference is rather insignificant in Fo2 at least, and Doctor has several quest uses and FA none... Of course, FA will still heal you a little even if it's almost strictly inferior to Doctor.

One thought, though: some stats and perks that seem rather pointless in a computer game would really come into their own in a pen-and-paper RPG, which the SPECIAL system is really designed to be. In "real life" you wouldn't go, "My healing skills at 12% be damned, I'm just going to rest on this spot until I'm healed even if it takes a week." In a computer game there's usually no reason not to. EN isn't such an unimportant stat if you can't just reload because you had 1 HP too few. The same goes for many "pointless" perks in Fo2. Not Adrenaline Rush, though.

It always seemed to me that they made a blunder when they didn't let the First Aid Kit override the "3 times a day" limit and/or add extra healing. As it is, it does nothing except give you a +20% bonus to your skill. Who cares about a Paramedics Kit when you can have hundreds of Super Stimpaks and Stimpaks at that stage?
