Speech Skill

ive never found much use for this skill but i see alot of people here talking about how they like to get it really high. i usually have about 4 char and never do anything with speech at all and i never seem to have problems talking with people. but maybe thats just because i never played a speech char so i dont even know what im missing. can someone enlighten me as to how good speech can be?

Speech is arguably the best skill in FO2. You can beat the game without killing anyone, except the President, with high speech skill. You can trick people into doing the dirty work for you. Speech gets you fuel for free, entrance into Navarro through the front gate, entrance into Vault 15 without a fight, the destruction of the Oil Rig without explosives and so on.

Speech is for those who like to fight with their minds: a Charisma Boy. If you're a "shoot 'em first, shoot 'em later and shoot 'em again" Action Boy, speech would not be very useful.

Yep.. And there's also the combat/charisma sort of character as well. It is not tough to get a good enough balance of stats to be able to beat the game no problem concentrating mainly on combat and charismatic skills. You can have good fighting skills so you will always be able to fight your way out of a situation, and when you dont want to fight you can speak your way out of one. Speech opens up many new options in the game. Many quests are speech-reliant and it can get you lots of rewards through that. It is a skill i always tag unless im going a combat-only sort of character.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then they'll be a mile away--and barefoot.

My first character had speech tagged, my second one doesn't. There's a BIG difference. However, that could also be because I'm a slaver, staright melee, uncharamisatic, and EXTREMELY low perception. Hehe!

hmm sounds interesting, not my type of char but ill give it a try anyway for varieties sake.
