what is the best ending for Bess?

I did a search in the FO2 forum here for Bess and saw something about setting her free, how can I do that? she's a great brahmin and will fight alongside me and moos happily and I can't bear to have her slaughtered when I leave, any way I can save her other than by killing all of modoc?

Use Doctor skill on her to heal her. If you end up selling her to the butcher, just open the gate in the pen and set her free. You may need to lockpick, but it should be easy. When you leave Modoc, she won't follow you anymore.

If you ser her free I think you'll get the dead brahmin special encounter. So the "best" ending for Bess would be to heal her but not sell her, then she'll disappear eventually and you can pretend she made it to a happy sheltered valley somewhere.
