RE: What stats are good for a melee char?
I recommend the following:
ST:8
PE:2
EN:10
CH:2
IN:9
AG:10
LU:6
Traits: Gifted, Good Natured
Tag Skills: Unarmed, Melee Weapons, Speech
Let me explain:
Strength 8 gives you good carry weight, and only 1 less Melee damage than 10. Plus it can be improved later in the game, and power armor gives a boost of +3 or +4 so it would be a waste to put it any higher.
Perception is useless for a Melee character, so it's as low as possible.
Endurance 10 because hit points are crucial and with 10 EN you will get 8 per level, the most possible. Later you can get two levels of Lifegiver, meaning you will get masses of HP.
Charisma is pretty useless, although with CH 2 you are limited to only 1 NPC. I recommend getting Cassidy.
Intelligence is crucial for any character. IN 9 gives you 18 skill points per level which should be fine.
Agility 10 gives 10 AP, allowing you to make the most attacks. Later in the game it allows 5 Super Sledge attacks per turn, which is lethal.
Lastly, Luck 6 gives a reasonable Critical Chance and allows some good perks, as well as giving a pretty good chance of a critical hit when you get Slayer.
Gifted is chosen so you can have the high stats.
Good Natured is chosen because you effectively gain 60 skill points while only losing 20.
