WTF?? Why all these bugs? FO2 is a botch job.

I just noticed this starting to happen to me recently :

Mobs further out I have a good chance of hitting (95), even to the eyes. As they rush me and come in close, I'm seeing my shooting percentages drop to the 40's and 50's. Possibility of an eye shot is %8.

My small guns skill is 105, perception is 9, I'm using a hunting rifle with a scope, WTF is going on???

Every time I turn around it's another bug (yes, I'm patched to 1.02, no I don't use character editors/savegames.)

Even with the patch, this game is so buggy it's a joke. Sometimes I'll get into encounters and see a combat taunt of "error."

I shoot mutant rats point blank with the SMG and for 1 or 2 damage. The original FO was dead on perfect. FO2 is a great game creatively, but whoever did the code seriously butchered it. Other than the artwork and such, FO2 is *nothing* like the original. Least the original worked right.

So what do I do? Throw this back in my desk drawer like it deserves or should I keep playing this buggy POS? It's really annoying to put all this work into my character and chase after so many quests only to have my gameplay hindered by stupid gameplay inconsistencies (such as escorting a bunch of brahmin and getting attacked by mutants with rocket launchers and miniguns, you'd think they'd have something better to do that waste rockets on a bunch of cowboys) and bugs (whoever did the NPC AI needs to be shot. The NPC's that I picked up are worthless in combat. I'll be getting shot and these guys will just stand their the whole time doing nothing. Basically they're good as packmules and nothing more.)

I dunno, I'm sick of these bugs, I can't play this piece of crap. Maybe Interplay should sell off its Fallout theme to a company that will take the time to do it justice. The original was great, FO2 was rushed out the door and it shows. Even with the patch it's still a botch.

Grr.

A pissed-off customer who will be adding Interplay to his "beware of lemon" list.

Hmmm... when you run around town beating people with dead armrests, do you use binoculars? NO!!!! Why?? Cuz' them hyperactive senior citizens always jump around, and with such a narrow field of view, it's pretty easy to lose sight of 'em.

If you need an example that's actually HYPOTHETICAL, then load up any game based off the Quake II engine, bring up the console, and type in "fov 5". It's nice for long range shots, but them crazy fools be dodging my bitch snapples when I come up close to tangerine them real personal like. Dig?

Well I figured it out with a little bit of experimentation.

Basically none of the weapons in the game work this way EXCEPT for the Scoped Hunting Rifle. It's only good past 8 or 9 hexes, once your target gets closer than that the percentages start sucking.

Now...that having been said....OMG this weapon rocks! I have an AGI of 10 and 2 action boy perks for a grand total of 12 AP per round, 2 aimed shots to the eyes. If you stay at the limits of the range of this weapon you get excellent results. Took out the raider camp south of VC with just this rifle and a few hundred rounds of ammo and I didn't get hit ONCE.

As an opener, go for the eyes. If he rushes you, start aiming for the legs. If he stands there trying to shoot you from 40 hexes away just plink away at the head. 99 times out of 100 his friends will NOT JOIN IN if you stay far enough away. If you get a bunch of people trying to rush you, boink the eye of the closest hostile and run backwards. Let the runners run and pretty soon you're left with a cowering mob.

Once again, the creative content of the game is outstanding. I love the weapons, the cities, the artwork. But the code is a joke, the AI is stupid to the point of being silly. If you shoot people from far enough away, they'll just stand there and do nothing. Their friends will stand there and do nothing. Same goes for any teammates you pick up. They are totally and completely useless in a fight. All you need is a good sniping weapon and you're set to kill anybody, even a force of 10 mutants with miniguns and rocket launchers. LOL I have over 100 stimpacks, haven't used one yet.

On a side note....What the fuck is that music???? Sounds...tribal.

Fizzle.

RE: WTF?? Why all these bugs? FO2 is a botch job.

In regards to your weapon of choice......have you ever tried shooting something at close range with a scoped rifle??????.......they're made for long range not close range......if you line up a target that's let's say 30 feet away with a scoped rifle all you see is detail and not really the whole target ......i dunno what's going on with your game......my NPC's never fire unless i get hit.....your individual game may have bugs as does mine.....i never get the good stuff in the toxic caves basement....just a bunch of crap.....try having someone burn you a copy of their game......i'll bet it will be better.....i also have your problem with the scoped hunting rifle.....also my hit % goes down if it's dark.......anyway......later
