In our popular Do You Want to Rig an Online Poll series of meaningless internet popularity contests we now arrive at the 2009 Mod of the Year Awards at Mod DB which I assume is a DB to do with mods or some such. FOnline has made it to the top 100 and if you think they're totally fab you can click on the "Indie Games" tab under "Best Released" and vote for them.

Not that pointless - I believe there are some sort of prizes for this aren't there?

Publicity is the thing FOnline really needs. It's like free advertisement which can increase numbers in player base. Also - This might be some kind of reward to guys responsible for 2238 (And also for Cvet, who created the engine.)

Yes, this is why it competes in the proper category.

Publicity is all you really get I believe, but that's not bad at all is it?
Maybe this.

It's odd that "Annual Mod of the Year Awards" treats "greater than mod" projects as a subcategory.

But I guess they have to tie it to the site, ModDB.

It looks like they are going to win :) yay! now we can steal away all of the interest it generates, for a few thousand Mutants Rising plays :)

Oh no, you will swim on the FOnline wave! :P

Wonder how the list will looks like later. Because I don't really think, that any indie game might have a chance against the big Half-Life 2 community and so on.

It's funny to think that the game creators can vote for their own game.

It is only natural. For example, when you vote for the president, the candidates can cast votes just as any other citizen (at least in Poland, not sure how it is abroad).

Especially in situations when thousands of votes will decide on the victory the 5-20 that the game creators can cast is not a big deal. Besides, other game creators can do that too, so the chances are equal :)

Voted for FOnline: 2238 as best released and Infinity: Quest for Earth as best upcoming (seems really cool, and only one programmer?!?) :D

Did you make sure to play through all the others properly in order to make a fair assessment?
