Forcing EAX use

From the bos.cfg file:

{sound.provider} = {Dolby Surround}

For all those who lost the ability o use EAX after the patch and want it back: I THINK, if you put the correct string in the brackets, you can force EAX usage. Trouble is, since I already installed the patch, I can´t find out what the EAX string should look like.

If anyone is NOT using the patch to retain EAX, please, open your bos.cfg file and copy/paste the sound.provider line into a post in this forum.
Thanks!

Heres the line: {sound.provider} = {Creative Labs EAX (TM)}

Incidentally, the patch didn't affect my ability to use EAX. It never changed anything in my bos.cfg.

Thanks for the tip, but all I got were some "nice try" points. Seems like the game checks evry time on startup what device drivers are "legal" by the new coarse code restrictions, and disables 3D sound if the bos.cfg specifies an illegal driver.
Tough luck for SB 128 and many live users.
But even though no 3D sounds hasn´t even got stereo positioning, I´ll stick with it. The hits and ricochets sound MUCH better

Btw, what driver version are you using? Maybe this info can at least help other SB Live users...

I'm using the Live!Ware 3.0 drivers, with the Remote Center 1.21 upgrade.

My EAX is working fine on Fallout Tactics. I didn't have to go and reset anything after I patched it. It retained all of my previous settings. While EAX isn't showing up in the Audio Menu in FOT, it's still the driver being used according to my BOS.cfg.

Not much help, but it's the info you wanted anyway..heh

OK, now I´m COMPLETLY confused. Why is my FOT ignoring what´s in the BOS.cfg and defaults to no 3D sound, while yours is obeying the .cfg command?

Ok, I give. I´ll just have to wait for another patch I guess...

But thanks anyway, deep!

Well hopefully a future patch gets issues like this resolved, after they get the major problems all taken care of.

See you around.

Hmmz, 3d sound....
a while ago I suddenly started to hear weird sounds in Counter-Strike (for the illiterate ones : the best 1st person shooter Half-Life modded into a counter-terrorism game), i could see persons shooting and bullets hitting but couldn't hear gunshots or voice commands. I think BOS messed up my SB Live, since probs started the day i installed it. Is this possible?

It might be usefull to try and reinstall your sound card drivers. I don't know If a patch could mess up the sound card drivers but it might be able to disable certain features. not sure but hope this helps.:)
