FOT Installation problems!!! please help

First time out of the vault
I have a laptop with a Nividia 8800 mobile graphics card. Dual core processors and 4 gigs ram. I am running vista ultimate 32 bit and have tried installing FOT multiple times. I have a much older comp with windows 2000 and another friends laptop with vista premium that downloaded the game fine. I auto run the exe and click install only to have it load for just a second and then disappear from the task manager and do nothing. I have then opened the file and ran the exe manually which did the same thing. I turned off my user account security, my firewall, and have tried copying it to the hard drive and running it. I have also tried running it in about every compatibility mode you can choose from like 98/me, 2000, 2pack for xp, and so on. All yielded the same result. I'm running out of options and really want to play this game because i loved all the other fallouts. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that fallout 1 and 2 both installed fine on this laptop and FOT is the only exception that i have found so far. Please help.... :(
 
When you say you tried copying it to the hard drive do you mean you tried copying the cd and running the installation from the hard drive, or do you mean you copied the installation from another pc and tried starting the game?

I don't know of any conflicts with vista, it sounds more like your laptop's disc drive is having trouble reading the cd/dvd.
 
I copied the entire cd to a file on my desktop and ran the exe from there. It came out with the same results. As for the
Disk read problem you stated, I downloaded a torrent version of a FOT DVD ISO and mounted it with daemon tool. I ran the exe and came out again with the same results...
 
When you tried running the set up exe in compatability modes did you try running it as an administrator?

Otherwise try installing the game on your other pc and then copying the entire game to your laptop and running the game exe (not the set up).
 
Dude!!!! I ended up pulling FOT from my friends comp and run the Bos exe to run the game. It needed a cd which was in the hard drive which brought up another delimma. I thought for a minute and then remembered I had a no cd crack app that came with the torrent fallout I downloaded. So I moved it from the torrent and into the fallout folder I tranferred with the Bos exe. Ran it and BAM. Loaded up FOT seemingly with no problems I can tell yet except not being able to register the product LOL. I jumped 3 foot and raised my arms in victory when it loaded up. Thanks alot for the help man.
 
Ok I have a small set back. It seems I have lag and I have the specs that says it shouldn't LOL. The cursor and characters lag when moving or scrolling. Any fixes considering I tried running admin and tried running it in XP and 98 compatability...
 
You can try doing this. The extra resolution options I have are from the hi res patch so don't mind those.

Edit: Your problem is also Vista.

I restarted comp and put it on windows 98 compatibility. After the reboot, the lag seems to have decreased dramaticly but it still is not as smooth as I think it should be... For example, is it supposed to lag when my characters enter a building and the game has to render
The inside of the building or should that be instantaneous? Also, what in you peoples opinion is the best resolution to play the game on?
