FOT Mission Editor plans

Anyone else planning to make a campaign when the editor comes out?

I have some great ideas. I plan to set my campaign up so it operates as more of a Fallout RPG within the FOT engine...obviously this will be a little tricky since the game doesn't support dialog trees, but hey, I'll work around that.

The game will begin with your character, who lives with his wife and child in a small town. You're an ex-raider who took pity on a young woman your raider master had captured and enslaved, so the two of you escaped, and the rest is history.

One night, tribals attack the small town and overwhelm the city's minute numbers. Captured, you and your family are placed into holding cells, guarded by tribals. The fate of the rest of the town is unknown. Eventually, your wife and child are taken out of their cells, and you overhear that they are going to be...eaten! Yes, these are cannibalistic tribals. Joy.

As they are taken away, you gain control of your character. The first thing you can find is that one of the poles of your cage is loose. Woohoo! Snap it off and you have a makeshift melee weapon. The guard hears this and comes into the cage to take it. It's killin' time. =)

The result is that you escape the cage, and go through the tribal camp around your small town and the small town itself, trying to find your family and getting supplies on the way. Interestingly, the town's dog hasn't been eaten, but it seems the rest of the townsfolk have all been maimed and killed. There are only two ranged weapons on this first map, other than the occasional molotov you might be able to find. One is a zip-gun owned by the tribal chief (which is called his "thunder maker"), and the other is your own personal gun, which is in your house in a hiding place (the tribals didn't find it, but when you enter the house you'll be reminded where it is).

End result is, if you're -really- lucky, you -might- be able to save your wife, but your kid is guaranteed to be toast since there will be many tribals around the fire where they were planning to cook the two. Your kid is too weak to survive even a few hits, but if you're quick and good, you might be able to save your wife.

If so, you now have your second party member...the dog is the first. Your wife isn't very good in combat (or else she wouldn't have been captured by your raider group in the first place, and wouldn't have been pushed around by the tribals now), but she has good skills. Basically, a support character.

After you finish this "mission" (which ends when your wife/child are either safe or killed), you can leave, and my campaign continues from there.

Note that since the editor isn't out, this is all just plans so far. =)

--------------------------------

The campaign I'm making will have little to do with the BOS, just like the RPG's. It will have towns with quests and such, as well as actual mission maps. Each town you go to will have an inn/hotel of some kind, and the innkeeper will let you swap out your party members there (sort of like the recruit pool). The difference is, you don't randomly get new "recruits", everyone you have in your available list you will acquire personally during missions and in towns. If you get more than 6, some will wait in your "recruit pool" at the local inn. Simple enough. Note that it will be possible to never have more than 6...this depends on how you play and how many potential allies you meet. RPG-style.

The "quartermaster" will probably not exist. In fact, all of the merchants in the game will likely be ring-pull merchants who have limited stocks for sale.

Hopefully I'll also be able to have the potential for such things as a town doctor who can heal some of your wounds (as opposed to the BOS one who just sells you stuff). "Missions" will be gained via the Bulletin Board at the local bar in any given town.

The premise of the campaign is that your character is ticked that his kid (and probably wife) were killed by these tribals. Initially, you'll fight the same tribals at their main home, only to find out that they were -hired- to attack your specific town by none other than...your own raiding party that you left! =) From there, the game moves on in various directions.

Sound like fun?

Please let me know your ideas for your own campaigns, or ideas on what you'd like to see in mine!

PS: Yes, there will be hookers and drug-dealers in some seedy areas of some low-down towns. =)
