FOT Not Running: Run Time Error

Neirin

First time out of the vault
post comp specs, OS, DirectX version

First Specs n Fall Out version:

Windows xp pro sp1 with dx9b
asus p4c800e deluxe (latest bios)
ATI 9700 pro 4.7 cats

Fallout version: I have tested with 1.27 and without 1.27 and error is occuring both times.

I cannot even get the game to run, it goes through asking if i want to register and all that then comes to this:

Error!
c:\dev\phoenix\font\font_manager.cpp: **fatal error**: failed creation of font: font_normal

Runtime Error!
Program D:\FOT\BOS.exe

Abnormal program termination

-----------------------------------------

Right now im uninstalling and reinstalling onto C drive into the default directory it initiates. I saw a few pages back someone posted a similiar error but was a lil different from mine, i felt the two differed too much to warrant posting this under his thread.

As for HDD space as one gentleman asked in that thread, its a 40 gig drived i installed into with 30 gigs left. It is defragged daily, nothing else runs on it cept for the game i have. Paging file is also defragged daily as well.

If there is anything i missed, any more info you fellas require, please post and ill let you know. Im not entirely sure what could be causing this error. I use to be able to play this fine on a similar machine but using a lower grade video card. it was an ati 7200 i believe. Anyone have any ideas id love to hear em.

-----------------------

I just finished installing into default directory. Error still persists.

Ah i found the problem, searched through boards again and found someone with same exact problem. My second cd is corrupted. Gonna get it replaced. Shame, was looking forward to playing. Cheers

Just reinstalled the game and i can't play it.

Hi, I just recently came by my fallout tactics cds. I installed the game and i get this error when i try to play the game.

http://bdweedshop.recongamer.com/error.bmp

I get the bottom one first then the top error.

I have dx9c, amd 64 3200+, gf 5900 128 meg, 1023 mb ram.

I have treid reinstalling dx9, reinstalling the game, getting the latest patch, no cd patch, and still no results. If anyone knows what i can do to fix, please let me know.

Luckily its just FO Craptics acting up, not any good game.

Ive had similar problems before. Heres what Ive done.

I notice from all the icons you seem to have numerous background programs running.

Turn them off. Turn them all off. Sometimes such programs interfere with the game, try running it with no other active programs at all (use the task manager to make sure everything, and I mean everything, is closed.)

Don't listen to him, did you install the latest directx and graphic/sound card drivers?

Damned Psycho, you should really consider painting eyes on your lower back and using your ass for a face. You're talking out of your ass so much people wouldn't mind the difference anyway. And hey, it'd probably make you look prettier too.

Also - I'm a bit in doubt if it could really be the graphic drivers. I just took a peek, and FO:T only seems to need DirectX 7 anyway. Unless, of course, you perhaps installed a newer graphic card/graphic card driver/ audio card/audio card driver than DirectX7 is?

well recently i just got the 5900, before that i had to use a ati 7000 32 meg because my ti4200 burnt out. I had it last installed on the ti4200 and it ran fine. I got the latest video drivers from the nvida website, the ones in windows update are over a year old (says 2003). Maybe i can try putting in my other sound card, i am using the on board atm. I just don't know why it would be a dx7 error when i have dx9 installed.

Is the ti4200 a Phoenix video/sound card? Because if it is, it seems like you've never uninstalled your old drivers. That = certain trouble.

*EDIT* At any rate, there seem to be some DirectX7 files left over in that folder. I'd see what they are doing there, and delete them if necessary/possible. Apparently, your comp seems to be trying to use those files instead of proper DX9 files.

I have a similar problem...the funny thing is, there is no such directory on my HD....

When I first installed FT I already had DirectX 8, so it seems unlikely that it's trying to use an old DX version...furthermore, Phoenix is not my video nor my soundcard.....

I don't know much about video and soundcards, just wanna play the game....any other suggestions on hwat the problem might be?

The first part of the error message is generic, ignore it. The second part 'failed creation of font' is the real problem, check in your core folder you should have a gui_0.bos file which should be 13.5mb it contains the fonts and if it's missing or corrupted then you'll need to re-install or do a manual install of just that file. It's in cd2\install\core.

gui_0.bos is 13.1mb for me, but that part of the disc seems to be corrupted....does anyone happen to share it in any way?
