FoT player-base preference research

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I have been working on the background of my FoT campaign and i just would like to know what the NMA player-base would like to play in a FoT mod. i will expose few suggestions but please feel free to post your own as well.

1) scenario - I plan to settle the campaign about 10 years after the end of fallout tactics. Considering its Barnaky's ending ... brotherhood fascism ... ect ... would you like to play a campaign that:

a) explore large scale conflicts between factions. (ex, brotherhood x enclave conflict. or old Bos x new Bos)

b) intense Role-play with deep characters of something lighter (60% shooting and 40% Rp)

c) possibility to player start his own faction.

d) explore deeply the political aspects (possibility to player influence treaties, betrayals, war and peace ... etc) between the factions or keeps it on a intermediate level?

e) possibility to player character have different starts (example, player could in prelude choose to belong to raider camp, free town or vault)

f) would you like to see the return of the master ? or something similar to the master?

g) anything else ?

I also am inclined to use known npcs we saw on the other games, (f1 and fot) known quests, and some of the material of van buren (locations, few quests, npcs) ... thanks for any help with it, but no rush, FoT Rebellion might not be ready before world war 3.

If you make any mod and will share it at any FOT forum, there will be at least few men who will play it.

So... do what you really want.

p.s. Nobody cares about your mod. Sorry, but it's true, cuz (be-be-be :3 for 10 years there were over9000 'New Awesome' Mods, but only 5-6 mods were done.

Zod, please, don't offence him that bad ;)

paladin_lord, are you sure that you know what you do?
Most of things listed by you aren't available in FoT because of game engine limitations. Did you made some serious changes to game engine, that will allow at least "40% RP" and "possibility to player character have different starts"?

If yes, then just start working on mod. This will be true revolution.
But ONLY if you really can do something that we didn't managed to do for several years. Things like dialogue system are unique and required many days and weeks to be complete. And even now FoT still can't be that much RPG'ish.

Can i ask: how much time did you spent in your FT Tools?

I would be happy with some bonus maps to the campaing - one or two with raiders, one or two with beastmasters, mutants, robots. You know, something just to fill the game with more missions.

If you release anything that is playable - campaign or just a map - I'll give it a try.

My main preference is that it be relatively easy to install.

yes, ease of installation is a serious bonus.

Also does it work? Awaken worked well, the darkfall demo was really good from what I remember, but it never got any further than that. Enclave was good, and tried a lot of new things, but many of those things just didn't work very well (the FO2 power armor, the vehicle sections, and the new armors/artillery weapons.)

FOT works best for its intended purpose, a tactical game with RPG elements. Sticking to that yields the best results.

What I would love to see more of was missions like Peoria, with more exploration of derelict warehouses and military bases and stuff. the different movement options make it possible for interesting hidden areas full of exclusive loot.

Either way, if you build it they will play.

I have been studding the FoT for several days now, but i am not new to modding since i used to create adventures for friends in nwn. But in truth i liked Fot building Platform even more than nwn (except for the tile building, that is a headache) Its simple yet sophisticated, most of what i learned about Fot building came from the editor and observation of complete mods such as awaken).

Now regarding the features i exposed, I am sure i can do most of them, as for example a conversation system ... i already developed one using only in game resources (triggers, i will post it in detail on this board today later on).

About several alternative starts i still working on that, i have not tried it inside the editor but i was thinking to create the first map as a character customization, area where the character would trigger through conversation (one sided this time) variables such as = born_raider/vault/civilian -- true --> end mission/go to mission (and specify one location for each variable), or at the worse possibility that it can't be done through scripting i could make three versions of the starting area where the player could download the one he/she wishes to play with. Of course, to develop that will take a loong time, but i have no hurry, learn how to do things is half the fun.

Also, thanks for the output everyone. i will try to unite as many of the suggested elements as possible while building the mod, right now i am working on the plot, looking for a unusual/cool antagonist ... mrm ... zod ... zord ... perhaps, perhaps

Well, i also modded some games before FoT, and it's indeed was much easier. This is problem of FoT - you come here, thinking "wow, i can mod everything", and then you end up just making new missions for singleplayer ;)

I agree, that FoT gives nice tools to build new levels and campaigns, but trigger system... Well, i just wish you luck, because you'll need to make all those alliances, quests and such via tons of triggers.

New enemy? Everyone can be a nice enemy, if you give him unique story. Even another Raider band.
I don't think another Master is fitting, but i wouldn't like to see another Calculator either. Beaten the bytes out of him too many times...

Yes that can be done, you could also make a series of prefabs like the races mod. Then have a dummy first mission that checks the race of the character and then transports them to a new mission via goto mission. If the player creates a new character from scratch that will be race 0, then the prefabs could be reavers, mutants, ghouls, raiders, tribals. You can also do something similar with gender check the gender of the character in the first map and set a campaign variable to change any dialogue responses for example.

Never got that one to work. Its what I was thinking about when I mentioned ease of installation.

Agree with what you said about Tactics being mainly a tactical game. I enjoyed Lost in Wastelands campaign even though I don't speak Russian. Yes, there were some choices in that one but it didn't try to make the game into something it isn't.
