Frame Animator problem

First time out of the vault
hi guys.
for some time already i've bedd reading this forum, but just now i thought i might make something on my own. i'm not too good with 3d modelling, so i've been trying to alter some critter animations in F2. i got all the *.frms i needed, converted them to *.bmps and edited them. but frame animator seems to have a problem reading them. i get "unable to load frame 'xxx'!" error. strange thing is, that it also can't load *.bmps that weren't altered. any idea what could be causing this?
i'd apreciate any help.

Did you change the path of the directory with the .bmps or of the .fpr?

You might want to export the files out of the .frm again, and then copy past the modified frames in the new directory (then load the new fpr and make a frm out of it).
Hope it can help. (if yes i wanna see :D )

I know this problem. Is Frameanimator rejecting ALL frames or only a few? In my experience it's only a few, and the way i get around it is to save the problem BMP's as GIF's. Then you should be able to load them in manually with the 'add frames' function.

If its all frames then i don't know. I suspect its a bug to do with the exact nature of the BMP format. Is Jochua around to answer this?

I’ve had this problem as well; it seems the Frame Animator likes to read the very first pixel in the co-ordinates 0x_0y (top left hand corner), and sometimes it fails to read and then load the image file. My solution is to open the file in Photoshop and expand the image size by one pixel in the top left hand corner, and reload into the Frame Animator. It works for me and hopefully for you as well. Good luck.

Ah. Interesting. But bear in mind altering the image size will mess with your offsets.

Thanks guys, bot none of your ways seems to help. It rejects ALL of the frames, also the ones, that i haven't even touched. May it be caused by Vista x64 system that I'm running? I've tried compatibility modes, but it does nothing.

Edit: One more thing. There's no problem with adding the *.bmp files manually, it only doesn't work when I open my saved project. I also tried saving *.bmp file with fallout pallete.

Well then it must be a problem with the .FPR file if you can add them manually. Post the folder containing the BMP's and .FPR and i'll have a look for you.

Sorry, but what do you mean by "post your folder"? Should I upload it somewhere and post the link?

Yes. Or alternatively open the .FPR file with notepad and post the contents here.
