Friggin Laggy

The problem i have is that the game is running too goddamn slow on my machine. i got a P-500 with 64 ram and did the humongous install. Loading and saving games is quick but the problem is that during gameplay everything is super laggy. the hard drive light keeps flashing while this is going on. can anyone help me resolve this problem?
 
In Fallout 2 Humongous and Large install makes it go really slow. BUT if you install medium install it'll go at a nice speed. Hey it worked for me.
