Galaxy News Radio - Internet radio station

GNRadio

First time out of the vault
Hey Guys,

Are you guys as obsessed with the FO soundtrack as me?

I started a live radio stream and hoping to also have some live DJs roleplay in it as well. You'll also hear Three Dog advertisements!

You can tune in the stream at http://gnradio.org

Added to fav. :) However, before using on "mass scale" I need to check if you're great enough.
One tip for beginning. No Three Dog, please, he's so annoying, not fiting into Fallout lore at all.
An don't limit yourself to only Fallout soundtrack. ;) Just stand around this genre and should be ok.

Woo, the problem is, there is only soundtrack from Fo3/FNV, not location soundtrack from FO1/2, which is great.

So another tip for you mr GNRadio, use also soundtrack from old Fallouts. They're outstanding, full of Fallout atmosphere.

I'm glad you guys hate Three Dog. That means I can focus on the actual music. I'm really excited that you guys are giving me good feedback.

Have any more requests? I'll work on the above ones tonight.

The LIVE broadcast is now up with music from Fallout and also thousands of songs from the Cold War Atomic era. Also, I will be getting a dedicated Macbook for streaming purposes.

Soon to come:
We are going to be featured on the Windows Phone 8 Pip-boy Radio App. There is currently an unreliable GNR stream being used and I am hoping to conquer it.

I wonder what the actual music of the 2070's sounded like. I mean, they probably didn't listen to music more than a hundred years old all day. And I can hardly imagine the ambient soundtrack to be mainstream, even in the retrofuturistic future of Fallout.

You know, I'm sure they would have made their own music. Music isn't something that could just die after a nuclear winter. A piano or guitar wouldn't be hard to make with spare parts. Drums could be easily made as well... I bet most of the entertainment would be mostly live venues and radio would be rare.

It works fine now, but it did stop in the middle of one song. Maybe my connection made a hiccup, dunno.
Don't add Three Dog, please. And add songs from Fallout New Vegas, I haven't heard a single one yet.
We could make a list here, adding songs that would fit the setting etc. without going too mainstream (i.e. Elvis), so that it would still be in spirit of the games.

As for music itself in the Fallout world, it's actually one of the most illogical elements of the series, which was brought on by Bethesda in Fallout 3 and then further elevated by Fallout New Vegas. The story goes is that either only '30s-'60s vinyls survived the War, or music never evolved past that point, which is ridiculous.
On the other hand, of all forms of art, I think imagining what music would sound like in the future is nigh impossible.
Anyway, as for the post-War world, there apparently is music still being made (casinos on The Strip feature musicians, or at least one of them does) and there's most certainly some form of music among tribes and people in general. "Primitive" would perhaps be an apt term for it, but I'm pretty sure there are other folks there who play banjos and stuff. Hundreds of instruments must have survived the war...

I also think there are instruments featured in Fallout Tactics, but I'm not sure.

If the music every switches randomly in a middle of a song you just switched mounts. There are two mounts, a live mount and a backup/autodj mount. The way it works if the live mount is ever down due to no DJ or music playing it will automatically switch you to the backup/autodj. This ensures the station is always up and playing.

As far as there being no NV music... There certainly is!

Glad I now know how that works.

I don't know, I haven't heard a single one, and I've been listening to it for around half an hour or so. Not much, I know, but I heard Butcher Pete twice, for example.

Also, I know it's beta, but how are you planning on visually designing it?

I personally like the idea, quite a lot actually, but there needs to be more work done, for sure. I will look through my older bookmarks, I had links of some older fan made radio stations similar to yours, you might pick up something from there.
But you have a great web address, that's certain.

Edit: Ain't That a Kick in the Head just started playing, so yeah, it's cool.

Edit 2:

Could you post a list of songs you've featured on the station?
I mean, if you have one made already.

Yeah, I'd consider it open BETA for now. Any help with this I would greatly appreciate. Feel free to PM me those links so I can check it out.

Also, I am a Software Developer myself. I am the process of developing a backend engine for the company that I own. Once I get the engine in BETA as well I will be working on a backend system for the radio to manage listeners and the AutoDJ Playlist. This should be released in a few weeks.

So, as you can see I have big plans for the radio and very excited that you guys are getting involved.

Edit:

Do you want the AutoDJ (idle) list or the Live list? I actually am working on both.. I found a way to stream directly from a Spotify Playlist for the Live list. I hoping on the weeknights if I get enough users I can do a live show. Maybe next week?

I'm sending a little PM right away.

If you already have a list somewhere, put either one, or both, in spoiler tags.
If you don't have a list made, don't bother. I'm just asking curiosity-wise :)

As for a live show, I don't know, it's your call. I can't promise I'd be able to listen to it, since I'm quite busy these days, but I think you should first finish the list of songs, the visual design, and then do live shows, podcasts etc.

As far as I'm aware, an online radio featuring songs from Atomic Era is a rarity, so could be making a real big thing here, something not only Fallout fans would appreciate (I know my mom would, haha), so I'd first and foremost make it a great online music station.

But, like I've said, it's your call.

I want to say that I appreciate all of the listeners I have been getting. I also want to announce that GNR will be down for a complete remodel. It should be up again by Friday.. Thanks

GNR has now been completely revamped from the ground up. We now have a better homepage and over 300 atomic age tracks. We also are now doing a something different. This is pre-war fallout radio that also features pre-war advertisements and Public Service Announcements.

You can view the changes are http://gnradio.org

Tracks are awesome!
I have no idea where you found them.

Still waiting for pre-War advertisements and stuff. Will listen for the duration of the day.

However, the visual design is a bit weird for me, but I hope this is just a starting phase.
I'd love to see it looking in the vintage style of the Atomic Age, you know, retro lettering and colors, a GNR/GNN logo etc. (like the one that was featured in the previous build). But hey, I know that's hard to pull off, just throwing ideas here.
