Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Hello,

I installed a game called GTR2. I works pretty good except that it's unplayable during night races because it's so dark I can hardly see the track...

I remember using a program called Gamma Panel when facing similar problems with games in the past. However it doesn't help with this particular game.

Any tips, words of advice, a link to another/better 'brightness adjust program' would be greatly appreciated.

My ancient system: P4 3ghz 1gig of ram, Radeon X1950, and a humongous CRT Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 monitor (brightness set to max)
 
I'd make sure the drivers are up-to-date on both monitor and video card. Also, if you have that catalyst software you should be able to adjust your brightness on that as well.

but it doesn't seem to work for this game.

The drivers are up to date, I changed the brightness and gamma settings in the catalyst control center (both 'desktop' and 'full screen 3d') to max.
Once the game starts I can hear the monitor 'click' and everything goes dark again...maybe the time has come to buy a new monitor.

And your monitor doesn't have any brightness troubles outside the particular game?

It might be a graphic card problem.
 
I do have to turn the brightness up when I want to watch a movie (using vlc player) Or in most games but then I normally just adjust the brightness in-game..
