Gameplay-design question about fallout 1.

First time out of the vault
I am wondering, I have just started to play fallout 1 (yeah, I know, real late, but hey, I love digging into classic games I've never played), and I am wondering, is there anyway to find the water chip without having to consort a guide? Or do I have to use a walk through to actually play through the game?

Just a bit confused with the game, thanks.
 
There's LOTS of in-game clues about where to find the water chip. Talk to people is my best advice, especially around the Hub. Trust me, you'll find it - it's pretty hard to miss.
