GameSpy skullfucks F:POS

Roshambo

Antediluvian as Feck
That is a tad harsh to put it, but the PS2 version really seems like the person wasn't going for a copied article and wrote it anew and voiced what really bothered them. The first sounds more like a press kit, but the PS2 review was particularly...brutal. They even take swipes at Interplay, although there's some questionable parts. The overall score was 3/5 stars, but from reading the PS2 review, they get down to business.

In the PS2 version, they even go on to say:

The Dark Alliance engine receives a sci-fi makeover -- and almost nothing else -- as Interplay confusingly introduces a defunct PC franchise to console gamers.

Wow...GameSpy pointing out such collossol screwings of the pooch in the game industry? There IS hope for the game industry after all!*

I was going to wait for someone else to post about this news item and to notice their shock, but after a couple of more submissions, added it. I'm still quite surprised.

* - But apparently not for Interplay.

Yes, well what do you expect. Zach Meston is a straight shooter.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck. He won't tell you it's a chicken.

A bit harsh on the phanboi's though.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is a competent and occasionally compelling hack-and-slash, but fans of the PC games will continue to dream of the true RPG they'll never get, and fans of Dark Alliance would presumably rather play Dark Alliance II.

Depressing.

What the fuck?

Gamespy... Good review? I don't... Uh, shit. This is screwing with my mind.

Didn't get any submissions though?

Not in the news, but I was told of it by a few people who noticed the article. Most only noticed one or the other, but some like jr. noticed both.

Hmm, can't say GameSpy was the ones I expected to comment like this. They tend to give a lot of shitty games good grades. Now well, maybe there's hope for them after all :)

These reviews are indeed fun. While the PS2 version is much better, the X-Box one is actually ok as well.

There's the small matter of difference, however:

PS2 version said:
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is a competent and occasionally compelling hack-and-slash, but fans of the PC games won't give a damn about it, and Champions of Norrath is a more satisfying and more technically impressive example of the genre on the PlayStation 2.

I like the small difference here. :)

So what's with 'hack and whack'? More PC cops to the rescue saving our virgin little ears? Gimme a break, the game is apparently laced with profanity, how bass-ackwards is it to not call it a 'hack and slash'? Christ

Which brings up the thought, is there even blood in the game?

Well, it's just because this time IPLY is too poor to pay GameSpy for a positive review.

It's too bad that this thought didn't occur to Interplay, or if it did occur to them that they ignored it.

I still can't believe that these reviews are from Gamespy.

This was... so... unexpected....

Gamespy might just be removed from my list of sellout whores if they go on like this. Keep up the better than before work, Gamespy.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?

Yeah, they probably bashed it cause they knew Interplay was gonna die pretty soon and it wouldn't be a possible money source. I still don't trust GameSpy... they had far too many good ratings in reviews when it was not the case.

Well well, that's about as good as they can get for a mainstream gigantic gaming site. Pity they're merging with IGN.
