Gause Ammo... searchness is futile

Still Mildly Glowing
I keep hearing how cool a gauss fast shot/sniper is. I'm thinking of doing one.... but....

I just finished the game. been many years since. such a good game :)

Now, I went through almost the entire game without getting gauss items until enclave. I was a HTH puncher, but I was looking for the ammo the whole game.

Pistol is at Melchior the magician (really cool character, btw).

But ammo.... not a drop. I didnt even get NCR to show his 100 shots of it. Really need like 500 shots to make it a weapon to level with. I guess it could be super endgame. Be nice if it was middle-end game. I saw info on NCR guys using those rifles. Hm. Anyone or anyway else? I have killap's patch.

Well, I get gauss pistol at ~level 12: then the enclave trooper sends reiforcements to gecko power plant...I KILL THEM ALL AND TAKE TWO full loaded gauss pistols ( I always be an unarmed + ranged weapon skill character, so power fist + gauss pistol with a little ammo - exelent choice). Here you go - early midle-end game (yes, later you get all the ammo from the enclave base and shopkeepers in SF or NCR, also NCR sherif and other cop has 50 ammo for it). Imho, ammo is not so rare like gauss rifle (which can be obtained too - only from enclave base (oilrig) or shopkeeper in SF. I mean - if you are a good character. If your playing style is "berserker" or something, someone sends mercenarys after you, one of them are usualy equiped with gauss rifle).

In vanilla F2 Shi guards in the Emperor's throne room have gauss rifles too, and there was also some 2mm EC ammo in the Toxic Caves mini-vault-storage/whatever.

IIRC, you can get Gauss Rifle + ammo to it when you'll meet bandits in the cave in random encounter thingy. They're wear Combat Armours, Power Fists, YK42Bs, etc. In other words: Epic loot! :D

Can't you buy it at the Shi merchants in San Francisco? I remember that they always had at least some and it's not that expensive.

"cant you buy it at SF" - its random, sometimes it appear, sometimes not. Last time then I played I had no Gauss rifle till the end, guess why? :/. But I had plenty of ammo which is strange compared to other times then I played :/.

Save game before entering SF (worldmap). Enter SF, go to shop, if no Gauss then load save game and repeat until you get it. Oh noez! This is cheating! :D

good ideas! I didnt know the one about SF too. that is very informative as well.

not really cheating. Not having a weapon ever that is supposed to be in the game is cheating yourself of fun!

you can just wait for it to restock, or when your roaming the wastes just use a different weapon and live off the stock in the toxic caves+steal from shi guards or ncr police, this way your not "save cheating". but only the hardcore dont "save cheat" , I don't steal or do speech checks without it :P(but then in most cases I don't know there's a speech check)

Well. After a while of playing I see that it can generate from SF. I had to save cheat to first get it to appear. Now it is random after that. Prior to that, I could never get it to appear. I leave it go random now, but the first time was really annoying. Stealing it off the 2 NCR guys was a nice tip.

Gauss is really cool. It truly decimates groups of dudes. I noticed though if you do 2 levels of increased ranged damage perk, and the living anatomy, 10 luck sniper, you do a LOT with the modified .44 magnum revolver. The JHP ammo just wreaks havoc. I find it more deadly with Fast shot than the .223 for sheer volume of damage.

Gauss is good with fast shot. Not sure about Aiming sniper, current critical rate is 20. Stats 6,10,3,1,8,10,10 (quite lucky with +2 Zeta-skan). Gifted, Finesse - and now i'm happy. I don't think i will ever need gauss, maybe only G-pistol - more shots per rounds - more chance to instant kill. It seems to be a nice replacement for M29 revolver. Before that, hunting rifle is perfect for bashing out robot sensors (2 aimed shots per round with BRoF - 2 blind robots  )

I know, it would be much less entertaining with fast shot instead of finesse - less crits and strong need in tagging Doctor (for perk) and getting BRDx2 as soon as possible...

P.S. After plaing FoT i realized, that F2 has way more gauss ammo (without stash in Toxic ammo) than FoT. If only Gauss minigun was added...
