Just bought BOS today. Can't say its a bad game, but its too damn difficult. Even at easy level, I lose characters left and right. If I'm overly careful, I only lose about 1 per mission.

Well, I don't know if you're trying this mode or not, but IMHO the new CTB (Continuous Turn Based) combat is a complete joke. It's all but impossible to survive most encounters. The Individual Turn Based (basically the mode used in Fallout and Fallout 2) works a hell of a lot better for me. I haven't encountered any "unbeatable" situations yet!

I beg to differ

I'm playing in CTB and have lost characters, but just reload from last save (you are saving I hope). I just finished the second mission and still have my entire party. As a matter of fact, for the second mission, my party only consisted of four and I was winded (still haven't figured out how to remove that).
remember, this is a strategy game, it's not FO1 or FO2. CTB is way better for this type of game.

RE: I beg to differ

If I didn't have a chuggy old computer, I might agree with you. As it is, CTB runs too funky on my machine to make it doable; things slow way down then speed up -- it's disconcerting. Also I sort of like to ponder my moves... It's not realistic -- but if I wanted realism then I would probably play something else :) Anyhoo, I'm only just through #3, but none of my guys (& gals) have been killed or really seriously hurt (playing on 'normal' difficulty level).

The Ultimate way to do well...

I only have the demo but I have found that it is VERY effective to send one man to do damage when playing continuous play. Not just any man but a melee man. These people do not have to reload and can usually attack 3 times before having to rest. They also have good accuracy because they can get up close and in real-time, the getting up close part is simple and I usually do not take damage while doing so. When the game arrives in the mail in a few days, I will tell you if this works as well in the real game. To show show well this works, I killed over 10 men with my melee guy alone in the first mission, and I wasnt even trying to be careful or anything. This is one of the best strategies I have discovered so tell me if you have anything better or if it works for you.

So long,

I like CTB, especially for the first few missions since the enemies are so brain dead. It just goes faster. But I've played the demo quite a bit so I'm used to the interface.

I bet when I get to the later missions I'll switch to turn based. but when its just raiders, CTB makes the mission quicker...
