Well, its 3rd day in Ramadan and I feel........ Hungry!!!!! 6 more hours Bhass!!!

Ehmmm.....sorry bout that.....
Well my Faithfull GeForce 2MX, altough still perform satisfactory (Well i play Hitman II too fast so i do some UNDERCLOCK!!!) will be outdated in few month. Well perhaps i'll buy another new Card. The problem is could you recommend any good VGA cards?
Don't say "Hey Bhass! Use GeForce4 Titanium! It's the best!"
Hey! It's overpriced!! You could buy another new computer with that amount of money!!
The choice has beed lowered down to ATI Radeon 9000 and GeForce3 Titanium. Well my friend told me that Radeon got same performance but cheaper (Only a third of brand new GeForce 3). He said also no problems with compatibility.....as long you got ATI Catalyst.
Well, is this true? Since ATI got some Reputation with uncompatibility........ I need your advice...

Actually, at this moment, the new ATI R9700 card outperformes the Geforce Ti-4600 about 20-30%. The difference is even greater when you turn on the 4X AGP options. Even the new Doom III is written on the new ATI card first before the nvidia card. John appearently likes the new functionality. But, he does say he may move on to the Aerospace industry.

Anyway, got sidetracked here for a bit. If you want the best right now, get ATI R-9700, although it's a bit pricey(around $3-400.00) The new Nvidia card is suppose to come out by the end of the holiday season. N30 or something like that.

It's your choice.

I vowed never to buy another ATI card as long as I lived after my ATI Rage Fury 128 and its horrible drivers that I waited two years for before I could find a stable set. I am still wary about ATI and its drivers and trust nVidia and its drivers. I mean when nVidia can simply release new drivers to counter ATI's newest and baddest card and make its old card perform better than ATI's new one, it says a lot about the quality of the drivers. This happened with ATI's Radeon 8500 vs. the Geforce3.

The Radeon 9700 does beat out nVidia's TI-4600 in a lot of tests, not all, but a lot of them and nVidia has a three to six-month duty cycle with their Geforce serieses so in a matter of a month or two the Geforce5 will be would.

As for the choice between the Radeon 9000 and Geforce3, according to this benchmark, http://www.xbitlabs.com/video/rad9000-64-128/ , the Radeon 8500LE actually performs better than the Geforce3 (TI200) and the Radeon 9000/9000 Pro. Go figure. Make sure you get the 128 megs of memory though.

If it came down to me, I would go with the Geforce3 TI500 since I like nVidia's drivers and the TI500 would probably perform equally to the ATI Radeon 8500/9000/9000 Pro.

Oh yeah, John Carmack of id Software uses nVidia's drivers as his "gold standard" for DOOM III and has had some problems with ATI's drivers (http://finger.planetquake.com/plan.asp?userid=johnc&id=16040).

Quite Interesting Xotor.
Hey guys! Are there any of you using ATI Radeon 8500/9000? Do you got any problems.
Are there other alternative? (400 bucks is too much! I could buy a new Athlon XP CPU complete with Everything and GeForce 2 Cards)

Yeah, I was going to mention that while ATI has "better" hardware, it means very little if you're running into frequent crashes and other problems due to the crap ATI "drivers".

$400? Where the hell are you shopping? $310 for a Radeon 9700 and $210 for a Geforce4 TI 4600 at www.pricewatch.com

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-02 AT 07:31AM (GMT)[p]Personally i would go with the Nvidia cards, just because nvidia knows how to write drivers. Actually the only game i can think of that had a problem with my card was ff8 for pc, and that had a patch out in a very short amount of time. ATI has too many bugs for me. I acknowledge it as a good card, but the nvidias get the job done with less headaches.

- edit - I also forgot to add that nvidia does really cool stuff with driver updates, like tweaking the card, overclocking etc :)

If u're not willing to spend too much moiney on a 3dcard then by GeForce 3, or 4 as they are beccoming cheaper and cheaper...And Radeaon cards have had some major driver related problems...I think it might have been tje radeon 9700 or 9000 series where the computers wouldn't boot because of an agp 8 related problem....

He`s in Indonesia, you wouldn`t believe the prices of tech stuff they have. Weird, since they produce chips and other things related. But i heard TV`s are cheap, not like where i live *grumbles like an old Muppet* :-(

Brios right! 400 bucks! Well now i think its about 3.500.000 rupiahs (local currency. 1 dollar is 9680 rupiahs. Convert it.) the price is stepped up last month after the bomb. But now it's lowered a little bit. Perhaps next month it will reach 200 bucks cause the gov plan to remove Electronics tax. Or perhaps i'll try smuggled thing (Well thats why the gov plan to remove the tax.... To prevent smuggled..)
About TV thats right. Some Poles football player playing in local club here even bought TV and send it to Germany. Said it is lot cheaper. I even could buy a Phillips 22' Flat Screen TV less than 200. Don't know if thats cheap but the Chinese thing were really really really cheap. You could buy 3 TV for 200 and thats no kidding. Altough you know.....Chinese.....Don't expect too much (heh...heh...heh)

*LOL*

For people looking for cheap electronics in Asia, there are usually 2 factors involved.
1. Where you are? This has been discussed. It means that if you have that particular product manufactured locally around your region, then it should't be too hard for you to find knock-offs, or really cheap OEM stuff. The Chinese market is a little different because of the existence of the grey market they have as a way of tradition. Bargains, haggling is a way of life for many Chinese people. Most of the time when you find cheaper product is because of the avoidence on paying import+export taxes in which they see it as a protectionist measure against "real" free market economy.
2. Who you know? I believe that is self-explainatory. :P

you dont need to be spoiled with the best video card there is, I certiainly don't need it for fallout 2 and warcraft 3, so I don't why you would, gamers don't need multiple new games, they just need a few special games that they stick with and play until full completion, maybe your just not a gamer

Radeon > Geforce 1,2,3,4
Radeon < Geforce 5 (christmas)

Anything under $200 isn't much money and will provide extremely good graphic. That's what I do, I buy pretty much everything a year or two after it comes out so that the price drops a lot. I experience no lack of entertainment because we only need better stuff as we adapt to what we already have, so living a few years in the past and advancing at the same rate is much smarter and allows you expand your funds to buying anime and prostitution

Edit: accidentally stated that Radeon is greater than Geforce 5

I agree. Back in '99 I got an ATI Rage 2000. Better than my brother's inferior Diamond GT or whatever, but certain parts of ATI technology made it actaully worse overall, so I had to throw it away and upgrade to an expensive GeForce 2 Ti 64mb, damn damn damn ATI!

The Radeon has more raw power than the Geforce 3/4 BUT Nvidia makes better drivers, MUCH better drivers. First off, their drivers always work, or work within like say, a week of a bug being found. Second, they do nice things like tweak the card for more performance. ATI basically releases a card, then waits about 2 years to actually write the drivers that work correctly.

*Cough*, the Geforce2 MX is already outdated, though it can run my copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein at 125fps if set the texture, lighting and anti-aliasing quality to a minimum, and that's at 640x480. Of course it drops to 30fps in some scenes.

Xotor, I totally disagree with your signature. It's actaully quite the opposite. Stupidity is acceptable, but ignorance is not.

If you are stupid and can't even relize it then you are ignorant. That's the worse. Ignorance < Stupidity.

Mental handicaps are one thing, but you might want to think more on how the meaning used isn't the one you want to believe.

Ignorance can be solved through education. Stupid already knows or is aware of what they are talking about, and doesn't care, or knows the knowledge but doesn't care to bother to apply it. Stupidity is also the case of someone arguing about a topic they are ignorant about.

In the context of the forums, ignorance is to a point excusable, mainly that they may have not have gone into the depths of the subject to be well aware of it. Posting an idea or arguing about Fallout while being ignorant is entirely stupid.

In addition, stupid people shouldn't breed. True, there's the occasional genius that results in it, but more often it just makes more people who are happy to work at Wal-Mart.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
