Generator Level

I'm in the generator level (can't remember the name) and I'm at the end with the scientist mutant and the other mutant that just stands there. There's this locked door near the useless mutant that I can't open and can't pick (does nothing), even by destroying all the generators. Can someone help me?

That and I found this key in St. Lewis that I can't find the lock for (helpful hint: unused keys will give you yellow text showing "use on" if you equip them, used keys will not).
 
I don't know where that key goes, but I've done just fine since that mission, so I doubt I missed anything I couldn't just pick.

I've never been able to pick that lock on that particular Mutant mission. But I've taken a different route to the area inside the locked door. There's nothing useful there. Don't fret over it.
 
Not sure about the generator level but in St Louis, the only locked item I've found is a chest at the SE corner of the mutant base, behind some sandbags. You get a XL70E3 rifle & some 5.56mm ammo. I didn't get the key until later but my Thief character managed to pick it with 75% skill.

The thing is that I've beaten it, but i get this message that seems to indicate that I could have done better, so I'm trying to get inside without killing the leader to see what the scientist says. I think the useless mutant probably opens the door and it's just buggy.
 
I think the locked door behind the mutant leads to the same room the scientist is in. playing with cheaty characters It always says "that does nothing" whenever I try to lock pick it. I don't think the door is supposed to be unlocked, just there to confuse?
 
I know how to beat the level and get into the building, I was mainly wondering if anybody knew a way to get through the door, mainly because the end mision breifing says something about you decided correctly not to destroy the generaotors, and i never decided a thing. I'm thinking that if i can talk to the scientist before i kill the comander i might do a better job of winning.
 
you decided not to blow up the mutant tanks, The bad ending of the game is if you destroy the mutant tanks.
 
DON'T you touch the mutant tanks...

I did it to see what will happen (just in case, I had a savegame and loaded it immediately), the briefing told me that I should leave my destructive wants aside when working for the brotherhood and dropped one rank...

I guess they are vital for the storyline..

BTW, I didn't understand which door you guys are talking about but the only door I found beside the scientist mutie opened without any problem.. The chest in there had several stims, as I can remember...
 
I believe you are talking about Jefferson.
You can get into this room by going back out of the factory and around to the west side. That door is already open and the mutant does nothing. But, to your left is a stairway going down. In the lower level is a bookcase with several super stim packs.
Also, there is a radiated tunnel to a chest with a few items. But be sure to put on the environmental suit (must be at least a level 10 to use)

As far as the key goes, don't have a clue.
