Ghouls: Good or bad?

uziel

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
This is a continued discussion from the "What's your favorite Fallout race?"

I, for one, believe that they're just humans who are unlucky enough to be overradiated trying to live as well as they can.

some ghouls are good, some are bad, remember in fallout1 in necropolis there was the ghoul Set, he was a mean bastard, his best line waas the "I'm gonna eat you up and be singin' the "happy tummy song", I got that haaaappy tummy...*slurp*"

and of course ther is Harold the nice ghoul and so on...

Yeah, Harold was dipped in the vats or something... or was only taken there than he escaped and somehow recieved enough radiation to become the huggable fella we all know?
I love his tree, weird as it may sound.

Isn't that how all ghouls were created? FEV was released into the atmosphere which drifted to the necropolis and combined with radiation to mutate the people there into ghouls? Only with Harold, he was exposed to FEV at Mariposa and it combined with the radiation already in his body?

I think that is right, Calc. and Harold wasn't dipped, Richard Grey(The Master) was;

Harold said:
Last I saw of Richard he was flying through the air into..into some sorta acid bath or something... before I passed out

Player: How did you mutate?

Harold said:
Hell if I know, but there was something inside that base.

Also, if memory serves me right, the vault in Necropolis opened to early(on purpose of course  ) and the people inside were affected by both the FEV and radiation...

but of course this is just what I gather from playing the game, lets wait till Per shows up and clear things up completely :P

My guess he is something of a gross cross between a mutant and a ghoul, dipped and radiated.I would eat him.

Ghouls aren't good or bad as a whole, I guess. When you first go to Necropolis, some attack you for no reason, some just ignore you, and some are rather friendly towards you (the ghoul in the sewer, Harold).

You could either look at this two ways:

First, ghouls are like people: some are nice, some are mean, some don't care either way.

Second, it's a result of their mutation: some people are stronger than others and can resist the damage the FEV and rads did to them mentally and physically, while others go mad and turn into animals. Also, maybe some had greater exposure to the catalysts for one reason or another.

It could also be some ghouls get sore over having to play the role of the outcast and get violent and wild.

Can we stop with the quote-on-quote action now?

Just to clear things up:
Harold is a ghoul.
Ghouls used to be people, but are all fugly now and are always gettin' put down by tha man. I think they would act just like people would if they were fugly and always gettin' put down by tha man. Some would be pissed off all the time, some would just be trying to survive, and others would be nice about it.

Now I have to wait 5 minuted to download the bible to be sure, but doesn't it also say that the ghouls were made ghouls by FEV which was mutated by radiation?

It says ghouls are the result of vault 12 (necropolis vault) door not closing (intentionally, to study the effects of radiation). Elsewhere the bible says ghouls were also exposed to FEV. Harold didn't get the rads plus FEV like the ghouls did, and it says he's a mutant not ghoul.

We could if you had got it right.

If I remember the Bible right, Tim Cain thought the ghouls were radiation only and Chris Taylor thought they were radiation + FEV. MCA didn't want to take sides. They all agreed Harold was not a ghoul but a special case of mutant, even though the Hub people understandably don't make that distinction and thus refer to him as what he looks like.
